I know how ya’ll feel about this man/woman/person, but Thomas Beatie gave birth to a little girl about a year ago and decided to have another child. Thomas gave birth to a little boy early this morning according to 20/20 and both

baby and he/she are doing fine.

Many are probably wondering if Thomas plans on having anymore kids, not sure but it does state his wife, Nancy, will be breastfeeding the baby. For those curious Beatie (Thomas) had a sex-reassignment a few years back but when his wife Nancy couldn’t get pregnant he decided to have the children. No name or stats has been released for the newborn boy.

Kentucky Reader: Can Wife Pump at Work?

A reader wrote in the comments asking other Babylune readers if they knew the Kentucky breastfeeding laws. Apparently his wife has gone back to work but they aren’t very supportive of breastfeeding.

Here’s some quick info I did find on Kentucky and Breastfeeding:
- Forty-three states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have laws with language specifically allowing women to breastfeed in any public or private location.
- Twenty-eight states, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands exempt breastfeeding from public indecency laws
- Twelve states and Puerto Rico exempt breastfeeding mothers from jury duty

I did notice that Kentucky does not actually have any breastfeeding laws for the workplace. I’ll continue to look into this, in the meantime for those living in Kentucky can you help?

OctoMom May Never Have Kids Again

The internet is buzzing with the news that Octomom, aka, Nadya Suleman may be having surgery done on her uterus. What’s this mean? In many blogs I’ve noticed they are talking about how she may never have kids again due to the surgery taking out half her uterus.

Sometime this weekend Nadya will undergo surgery for a benign tumor, which actually means it isn’t active. However, I think given the option and already having 14 children she’s doing the right thing. There is always a chance of it becoming an active tumor.

Yesterday she actually left her house and enjoyed the day at the park with her little ones. Just to show she is no longer being taken care of by the government she announced:

“I am not in any government assistance,” she said. “(The children) are off Medi-Cal, they have no Medi-Cal. I’m paying (insurance) premiums. I’m paying a hundred percent of everything.”

Honestly, I think we knew this part, but I’m sure it feels great to her to be able to do it all on her own finally. Either way, hopefully the surgery is a success and she is back home with her babies very soonl.

Father Delivers Baby Assisted by Youtube

With technology advancing and more and more people using the internet I guess it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to hear more people are trying to learn how to do things themselves. That’s just what happened to the father of four, Marc Stephens. Marc had been watching a series of youtube videos on how to give birth/how to deliver your baby when his wife went into premature labor hours later.

No, this wasn’t exactly planned. They had planned on doing a home delivery but weren’t quite ready. The little baby boy wasn’t willing to wait another three weeks either. Thankfully he’d just watched those videos and remembered exactly what to do. Marc Stephens delivered his baby boy after watching some youtube videos.

Would you have been ready to give birth on your own?

Mother Charged for Breastfeeding Drunk

A 26-year-old mother was just charged for breastfeeding her 6-week-old baby while severely intoxicated this past February. Stacey Anvarinia, the mother, was definitely intoxicated when police arrived at her home for a domestic situation, but what they surprised them was the fact she was breastfeeding her newborn in that state of mind.

Even the La Leche League states that you should NOT breastfeed your baby while intoxicated and that you should wait until you are sober. Currently it is unknown what her blood alcohol level was and even if she was drunk. The assistant state’s attorney, Carmel Mattison has stated this will be the first time they’ve accused any mother of breast-feeding while drunk.

A lactation consultant in Altru had this to say:

“No matter how little you drink, you are potentially exposing your baby to alcohol. You need to make that decision for yourself.” - Dee Grabanski

According to the La Leche League FAQ:

Mothers who are intoxicated should not breastfeed until they are completely sober, at which time most of the alcohol will have left the mother’s blood. Drinking to the point of intoxication, or binge drinking, by breastfeeding mothers has not been adequately studied. Since all of the risks are not understood, drinking to the point of intoxication is not advised.

Milwaukee officials announced over the weekend that they were worried that people have forgotten the laws after hearing about an 18 year old left her newborn in a diaper bag. This is such sad news, if she had shown up at a police station she could’ve anonymously given up her child.

Hospital Switches Babies Again

Another hospital has accidentally given the wrong baby to a mom that once again breastfed the child. The difference this time was the color and one family is deeply disturbed by the events and I can totally understand why. In this case it was a caucasion baby and a half African American baby.

IMG: Sxc.hu (Not the baby)

IMG: Sxc.hu (Not the baby)

The Portsmouth Hospital of New Hampshire had this to say:

“We deeply regret that this event occurred,” Notis said, “and we are continuing to work closely with and support the family involved. We launched a full investigation immediately after it occurred and are taking steps to avoid the occurrence of a similar event in the future.”

Why did no one say anything and how did they not notice? Apparently the breastfeeding mother, the one that actually did the feeding noticed the baby but thought the hospital staff would think she was crazy if she mentioned that this baby was not hers. So instead of saying anything she went ahead and fed the child. The baby’s parents are now getting it tested for HIV and Hepatitis C as it is possible to transfer the disease through breastmilk.

The father that is testing his child would like his family to remain anonymous, however he did go on television to tell about his story. Here’s what he said:

“We point blank asked her, ‘did you not know your were taking care of our baby?’ and her response was, ‘I thought it wasn’t my baby, but I didn’t want to sound crazy so I didn’t say anything,’” the man told television station WMUR.

What’s worse is this probably could’ve been prevented had they allowed the baby to stay in the room with the mother, but due to complactions after the birth she took a sleeping pill and they wouldn’t let her own mother stay in the room with her and the baby. They had to send their newborn out to the nursery, reluctantly and now they have to deal with this. There are two different accounts right now as how long the baby was in the other woman’s care, she stated a significant amount of time, the baby’s father states it took 10-20 minutes for the baby to latch on to mom during breastfeeding and the hospital staff is now saying only 5. Either way itwas enough to cause a tremendous amount of tension and break a lot of trust.

Hopefully they’ll hear that the baby is perfectly fine and that there are no other issues with the child.

Momma’s Coffee Break Friday

It’s Friday again, that means it’s time for our Momma’s Coffee Break. What’s Momma’s Coffee Break? It’s simple, you come here on Friday to chat about just about anything and everything under the sun. Does it have to be about your baby? No it doesn’t, in fact you can chat about a movie you want to see. Or maybe how disgusted you are that last week you had the perfect kite flying weather and today you look outside to see ice. Not to mention you find out its suppose to SNOW this weekend. Go figure right?

The Life of a Home Mom

The Life of a Home Mom

Or you could talk about how old I’m getting. What? Yes, my oldest will turn 12 this weekend and I still recall the day he was brought home…not to mention the night he came into this world. He was one of those stories about the women you just don’t believe. You know the ones that say they almost didn’t know their first child was coming, yep that was me. I mistook him for a bowel movement. Shhh, he didn’t hear that and I didn’t just write it.

As you can see, just about anything goes. This past week I spoke about the following:

-  Octomom and how she fired her Angels
-  Alfie, the 13 year old, who’s NOT the daddy.
-  The man pregnant with Twins.

Or you could tell me what your favorite post that I’ve done here is? Everything is optional and I hope you have fun. Happy Friday!
