Thankfully there have been no accidents with this hammock. For those that do have the hammock they have issued a recall on it and would like you to return the entire thing. Hazard: The hammock can flip over, posing a serious fall hazard and strangulation hazard to infants who become entrapped in the seat’s restraint straps while upside down.

Description: The recalled baby hammock is a cream-colored canvas and hangs from a wooden pole. The hammock measures about 29 x 43 inches. It has three restraint straps with red buckles and is attached to a cushioned pad for the infant. A mounting fixture, also called a fixing set, is sold with the hammock. “La Siesta” is printed on a tag located below the restraint straps. Model number YABN-1 is printed on a white tag sewn into the hammock’s side seam.

I figured out why I never liked these, it reminded me of the bigger version and I’ve fallen out of those a number of times. I’d never put a child in if I can’t lay in one.

The announcement has been made that the Storkcraft company will recall 2.1 million cribs that have the drop down sides. Keep in mind drop down sided cribs have been looked at badly in the past year, especially with all the past recalls. Currently there has been four deaths because of these cribs and we don’t want anymore.

By the way the recalls are for a repair kit to fix the cribs and they do advice you not to do it yourself without the kit.

CPSC:

The cribs’ drop-side plastic hardware can break, deform, or parts can become missing. In addition, the drop-side can be installed upside-down, which can result in broken or disengaged plastic parts. All of these problems can cause the drop-side to detach in one or more corners. When the drop-side detaches, it creates space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. The bodies of infants and toddlers can become entrapped in the space which can lead to suffocation. Complete detachment of drop-sides can lead to falls from the crib.

CPSC, Health Canada, and Stork Craft are aware of 110 incidents of drop-side detachment; 67 incidents occurred in the United States and 43 in Canada. The incidents include 15 entrapments; 12 in the U.S. and three in Canada. Four of the entrapments resulted in suffocation: a 7-month-old in Gouverneur, N.Y.; a 7-month-old in New Iberia, La.; a 6-month-old in Summersville, W.Va.; and a 9-month-old in Bronx, N.Y. Included in these incidents are 20 falls from cribs; 12 in the U.S. and eight in Canada. Fall injuries ranged from concussion to bumps and bruises. The cribs involved in these incidents had plastic drop-side hardware that had broken, missing, or deformed claws, connectors, tracks, or flexible tab stops; loose or missing metal spring clips; stripped screws; and/or drop-sides installed upside-down.

This recall involves Stork Craft drop-side cribs and Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. This recall does not involve any cribs that do not have a drop-side. This recall does not involve any cribs with metal rod drop-side hardware. It involves only those cribs with plastic trigger and one-hand-system drop-side hardware.

This recall includes Stork Craft cribs with manufacturing and distribution dates between January 1993 and October 2009. This recall also includes Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo that have manufacturing dates between October 1997 and December 2004. The Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo were first sold in the U.S. in July 1998 and in Canada in September 1998. The cribs were sold in various styles and finishes. The manufacture date, model number, crib name, country of origin, and the firm’s name, address, and contact information are located on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board. The firm’s insignia “storkcraft baby” or “storkling” is inscribed on the drop-side teething rail of some cribs. In Stork Craft cribs that contain the “Fisher-Price” logo, this logo can be found on the crib’s teething rail, in the manufacturer’s instructions, on the assembly instruction sheet attached to the mattress support board, and on the end panels of the Twinkle-Twinkle and Crystal crib models.

Maclaren has had 12 cases so far, which is why they’ve decided to do the recall. The strollers have a big M on it and the name Maclaren written down the side of the stroller, making it hard to miss. The strollers sold between $100-$350 at stores.

According to the Cpsc.gov:

recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers. The word “Maclaren” is printed on the stroller. The affected models included Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

Virginia has recalled over 41,000 of the Baby Jogger Mini Strollers due to a malfunction in the seatbelt.   The seatbelts can come undone on their own or by the child/infant, this of course would allow the child to become unbuckle and possibly fall out.

The mini strollers come in a variety of colors and either dual (double seats) or single.   The Baby Jogger company is asking all users to STOP using it immediately and they are offering a free replacement buckle with installation instructions. I wanted to make sure that if you had something that the news got out to you, so here’s the list: The first recall is for a booster seat by Circo which has 43000 out in the public. This is a little blue booster seat with yellow straps, the straps (buckle) can open unexpectedly allowing the child to slip out.   This recall asks that you return the seat  to where you purchased it from for a full refund.  Unfortuneatly 8 reports were made, three of which resulted in injured babies. Model #s: XJ0811, XJ0812, XJ0901, and XJ0902

Safety 1st SmartLight Stair Gates has 31,500 of these out that they are trying to warn people about. This is just a voluntary recall though, but if you recall back in Feb they recalled 100,000 of them. Why the recall? The hinges can break causing it to fall over and a baby to go with it, but thankfully this has not happened to anyone. Model #42111

The third recall is for the Jump ‘n Jive Doorway Jumpers by Graco, this one is being recalled because of the detachable toy.  This is one of those doorway jumpers that has a play mat below for the baby to bounce on. The strips have toys attached for the baby to play and bat at.  There is another blue strip that has velcro on it to hold the toy connected to the jumper, but it does come off posing a choking hazard. Aqua-Leisure has recalled 14 different styles of inflatable floats that they’ve made. While you may not have to, it is voluntary and the CPSC is asking that you return them to the company. At this time there is nothing stating if you will be sent a new one or reimbursed.

Here’s what the CPSC site says:

Hazard: The leg straps in the seat of the float can tear, causing children to unexpectedly fall into or under the water, posing a risk of drowning.

Incidents/Injuries: There have been 31 reports of float seats tearing, causing children to fall into or under the water. No injuries have been reported.

A huge recall on infant garments, this time it is the taggie garments. These little sleepers might look cute but they have buttons that can come detached posing a choking hazard.

The July 2008 recall involved two Taggies™ Sleep ‘n Play style infant garments: the Butterfly Applique’ and the Fun Dog Print. Subsequent to the recall, two additional Taggies Sleep ‘n Play styles, manufactured before July 1, 2008, were identified as also having snap issues. The recall has now been expanded to involve the Dinosaur Applique’ and the Pink Toss Print styles. The infant garments are one piece footed coveralls with snaps down the front. These garments were sold in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-9 months. RN #27829 is printed on the care label sewn into the garment. Style numbers are printed on the hangtag of the garments.
