Cow Has Triplets

March 3, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

A cow down in St. Louis, Missouri gave birth to triplets recently. Apparently this is not a common thing and considered rare. The chances of a cow having triplets are one in 100,000, but it happens. Currently the heifers are doing well, the survival rate is very low for triplets so hopefully they’ll keep everyone updated.

These three heifers are very cute, I’ve included the video so ya’ll can view them.

For your own records here are a few that have given birth to triplets:
- Faith, an Arkansas cow had triplets in 2006 (she’d also had twins in 2003 and triplets in 2004)
- Dick Taylor’s Charlais cow had triplets in 2005
- The Black Angus Cow on a Wyoming Farm has given birth to triplets two years in a row. - A cow in Concord gave birth to triplets and began nursing all of them immediately.

7 Common Shoe Myths for Baby’s

March 1, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

babyshoes Finding a pair of shoes for your baby is hard, even harder if you’ve never shopped for shoes. There are so many things that go through your mind, how do I measure the foot, what if it is too big or small, was my mom right and I shouldn’t ever put shoes on them the first year? Here’s a few answers:

Myth 1: Babies need shoes to learn to walk

Truth: Babies learn to walk without shoes! It’s fine to wait until toddlers are walking unaided, unless they need shoes to keep their feet safe or warm.

Myth 2: Babies’ first shoes must be rigid to provide support

Truth: The stiffer shoes are, the more they restrict toddlers’ feet. For healthy development, feet must be able to move freely.

Myth 3: Well-fitting shoes should be as long as the child’s foot

Truth: Children’s shoes should be 12-17 mm (1/2 - 3/4 inch) longer than the foot. Only 8.5% of all parents know this!

See http://www.kinderfuesse.com/english/download.asp?lev=wort2&page=1

Myth 4: Shoe sizes can be trusted

Truth: 90% of all kids’ shoe sizes are misleading. A shoe labelled size 23 is often only a size 21. Tip: Measure both the feet AND the inside of the shoe.

See http://www.kinderfuesse.com/english/download.asp?lev=wort2&page=2

Myth 5: Second-hand shoes are bad

Truth: If the shoes fit and are not unevenly worn, there’s no reason not to use them! It saves money and resources, but most parents feel needlessly guilty about recycling used shoes.

Myth 6: Kids can tell if their shoes fit properly

Truth: Using a specially developed test track, researchers discovered that children wearing too-small shoes usually claim they fit well.

Myth 7: Expensive shoes are better than inexpensive ones

Truth: A high price doesn’t guarantee quality. An analysis showed that the sizing of expensive shoes was no more exact than on cheaper models.

Baby’s First Hair Cut

February 24, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

Some babies don’t mind getting their haircuts, in fact they look kind of cute just getting it done. Don’t you think? But then there are:

those that just aren’t happy about the whole thing. How was your baby when he/she got their first hair cut? According to the husband they loved having him in there, they were surprised he sat still. Funny whenever I tried cutting his hair he’d scream. Hmmph, where’s the trust? hehe

Did You Ever have Pains Years After Childbirth?

February 3, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

I was asked today if I’d ever experienced pains or horrible cramping during my period after giving birth. I have from time to time but not like this mom of two talks about.

Facts: She’s had two children, last one 3 years ago. She has a regular cycle and her pap smear came back fine.

I’m experiencing horrible camping when it is “that time of the month” and if I bends or squat it feels like I’m still healing down there. The other night I had to hold a heating pad to my stomach to stop the pain.

I can’t answer this one so I’m hoping one of you have experienced this. Anyone? If you’ve experienced ANYTHING strange after childbirth and would like to speak do it here. I know after I gave birth to my first child I was put on the lightest birth control pill (was breastfeeding) but ended up having 3 periods a month. I was moody and exhausted. I’ve also been experiencing the cramping in my tummy but not as badly as she has. Would love to hear from ya’ll.

Woman Fakes Birth to Steal Keys

January 7, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

Oh it’s the woman that makes all pregnant women hold their head down in shame. This pregnant woman decided to FAKE that she was not only pregnant but in labor too. Why? She was at a mall shoplifting but when caught she tried to pretend to go into labor. Course it was shortly discovered that she was never pregnant.

When officers arrived at the mall shortly after 2 p.m. Erica Kaye McNally, 35, had been caught shoplifting and began to complain of birth pains, Clemens said. McNally, of Lincoln, Neb., was taken to a hospital where it was discovered she was not pregnant, he said.

Nurse Hands Newborn Off to Stranger

January 6, 2009 by Eliza Ferree

This is one of those nightmare scenarios that every mom has when giving birth. You know the whole, I want to watch my newborn every second of the day because I don’t want it to get snatched.

But it happened at a hospital in South Australia when a nurse handed a baby boy off to some stranger. But a nurse that had been with the baby after a few hours, she needed to catch a flight though so she handed the baby off to some person that was there. The father of the premature baby was very upset to hear his child was left but left with a stranger, not even a person in the medical profession.

No one likes to be told what they can and cannot do, especially after they’ve already been allowed to do it for so long.  So it shouldn’t be a big surprise that breastfeeding moms all over got upset with Facebook, a social site like Myspace, when they decided to begin banning those that had breastfeeding pictures on their sites.

Why did they ban these pics? Because they were obscene. You know feeding a child is just so bizarre and disgusting and pornographic. Right? I mean it wasn’t like they were hot moms wearing bikini’s and doing it, that would probably be allowed. But just regular moms, some you can’t even see the nipple but you know it since the baby is right at the breast. Maybe they just don’t like to see pics of moms with their babies. Who knows.

These women however were NOT going to be stopped, in fact they decided to do a nurse-in online at the end of December where there were 11,000 people that participated. I’m not sure how many of those moms were banned. However the spokesperson for Facebook did make a statement:

“Photos containing a fully exposed breast (as defined by showing the nipple or areola) do violate those terms and may be removed.”

But I’m guessing this doesn’t apply to ALL those that show breasts, just those with babies attached. Oh and to prove this isn’t true (the statement) click over on Obscene or Not and check out Kelli Roman’s breastfeeding pic. She was banned for it, you can’t even see the nipple and barely the breast. Course she wasn’t going to stay shamed forever, she created a Facebook Group called, “Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!” currently she has 124,142 members. Guess us moms like to stick together.

Any thoughts?
