Water, Water Everywhere

Bodum Neptune Unbreakable Water Bottle, ClearThere’s a fine line between being physically tired and being the-world-is ending tired. And the element that separates those two countries is often just water.

Breastfeeding mothers, especially now that the weather is warming up in the Northern Hemisphere, need to drink a lot.

If you forget, or don’t have time, then becoming dehydrated is a serious risk. The first symptoms, at least for me, are exhaustion followed by a headache. I didn’t realise I wasn’t drinking enough for the warmer weather until the headache woke me up and I had the driest mouth I’ve ever had.

When my first child was a baby, I used to keep bottles of water everywhere so that one would be in arm’s reach every time I nursed. Somehow, in the chaos that is life I’ve forgotten to do that this time.

Here are some spots I recommend for nursing mothers to keep a water supply at the ready:

  • Next to your bed
  • Next to the baby’s bed
  • Next to the couch or on the coffee table
  • Next to your nursing chair
  • Next to the computer or desk where you’re reading this

Whenever you need it, here’s a nice drink of water toast to you. Cheers!

I am amazed at the things I could not, would not do without when my oldest was a baby, that I cannot seem to remember at all anymore. My third (and last!) has just turned one, and things that were automatic musts (never leave the house without a baby blanket, always grab extra snacks and baby clothes) have completely escaped my now feeblish mind. :) I wish you luck in remembering all the things that will keep you healthy and sane, like your water!

Isn’t it amazing how much of the brain gets pushed out with the last baby?
