Well, We’re Kind of Tired

OK. On Christmas Eve we do the whole Bulgarian vegetarian feast. We eat bop and banitza, stuffed vine leaves and shopsky salad. There are three other smaller dishes on the table composed of peppers and eggplant, tomatoes and onions. It’s delicious, but as much as I love Bulgaria, it’s not my culture.
Usually, I like to do some turkey or goose for Christmas day. The thing is, there are just the four of us for Christmas dinner. No one is coming over. Our families are sitting down in other countries, in other time zones. I could spend all day cooking a dinner the kids will eat three bites of while thinking of toys, toys, and more toys. Sure, we’d live off the leftovers for the rest of the week. Or, we could all go to the Chinese restaurant for the buffet and just enjoy each other’s company.
We’re all very, very tired these days. And, you know, that movie about the kid and the BB gun where the family goes out for dinner after the dogs eat their turkey? That was filmed at my elementary school when I was in grade five. Yes, it’s looking very traditional for dinner right now. I can already taste the Peking duck….

I loved that movie when I was a kid
