What I Said I’d Do

When I launched the Generous December Group Writing Project, I said that there would be one donation to the charity that I was convinced did the most good in the world. Then, I published the nice list and said I would give something to everyone in some way.
And then, I thought, well, I’d better do what I said I was going to do. This was never a random contest. There were some charities that appealed to me as more necessary than others. All good work is good, some of it is just more urgent.
I was convinced that there was a winner who should be recognized as such.
Or two winners.
Noreen, through my writing on the subject, I have learned so much about the AIDS epidemic that I have despaired. You told me about the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the work they are doing with grandmothers on a continent where 21 million orphans need care as a result of AIDS. I couldn’t imagine a better charity to use my money. What our people call “a cheque” for $60 is on its way to them.
Bellevelma, you told us about you son’s allergies and having to worry about where to place a kiss goodnight. Your fear and love broke my heart. Looking at the Food Allergies and Anaphylaxis Network in the context of your post, I could understand exactly why it brings you essential information and provides potentially lifesaving help. As I explained in an earlier post, my credit card was canceled just in time for Christmas and FAAN doesn’t except PayPal. So, $60 is headed to you via PayPal to pass along to FAAN at your leisure.
Merry Christmas ladies. I hope you like your presents.
Love,
Kate

I LOVE the work that the Stephen Lewis foundation does, (we had just sent our Christmas donation to them just before you announced this project) and I am so happy that you have given me a chance to let people know about them!
