Where New Mothers Get to Keep Their Jobs

Career and Kids has an interesting post about companies that actually work to keep new mothers in their jobs. The Forbes article mentions benefits like on-site daycare and flex-time that all parents have been crying for.

  • This is more than just the companies being nice, the article reads. It’s a matter of survival. Retaining the most talented employees has become a cutthroat part of business in the ever-tightening job market.

In addition, encouraging new mothers to nurse and providing them with the support to do so, saves companies money in insurance premiums.

Do any of you have family-friendly workplaces? What is it like?

My work is pretty family friendly, but it a preschool. I guess we have to be! :) I have been at my current job for almost a year now. The first month I was hired I was out of work for a week with my puking kids. They could have fired me, but that wouldn’t have done any good. There’s nothing you can do about sick kids.

Karen- I would hope a pre-school would know that!
