Silicone Is Not Just For Implants Anymore

This is going to be a very busy day here. Not that everyday isn’t a very busy day, but this one is a little more than usual, and if you check back tomorrow you will find out why….
Yep, here at Baking Delights I have something, well, delightful in store. You’ll like it, promise. Tell your friends. You can just say something like, “Hey, you know that crazy woman at Baking Delights? Well she is up to something! D’ya think she is gonna do a hostile take over of a country or something?
And you might be surprised at the answer to that. However, hostile taking over of countries aside, I do have something planned and I do believe you will love it.
Since today is such a very busy day, including grocery shopping, and I have a new recipe to test for Cook’s Illustrated, I am going to share one of my favorite products. I know that I have mentioned these little wonders before but not in a whole post of their own.

Photo is snagged from Wilton.
Yep..I love these baking cups. First of all, nothing sticks to them. I mean nothing. At all. Ever. Not-even-if-you-forget-it-in-the-oven-not-that-i-would-ever-do-a-
stupid-thing-like-that. Second, they are frugal. They last forever. Really. I expect to take these when I go to be with the Lord so that I can continue to make Blueberry WHite Chocolate Chip Muffins. It just wouldn’t be Heaven without them. You always have baking cups. I used to hate having muffins all mixed up and finding out that my daughter used the muffin cup liners to create hoop skirts for my son’s GI Joe toys just to make him mad. Not that my children would ever do things like that to irritate each other, it was merely hypothetical. I realize baking cups don’t cost much but they do add up over a period of time.
The last reason I like them is actually equal to to the other two in importance. They save trees. Paper is made from trees, y’all. Trees are nice. I like them. It is no fun to climb a rose bush or sit under the shade of a crocus. See what I am saying? Trees are good stuff. They need to be saved. I personally think that the paper manufacturers should make paper from dryer lint as it is one of the most renewable resources I know of.
Anyway…the baking cups run around $9.00 for 12 of them, which IS a little pricey when you compare them to paper baking cups but since you will be either taking them to Heaven with you are passing them on to generations of your descendants it is a great investment in the life of a tree.
The other thing is that they do stand alone if ned be. You can line them up on a cookie sheet. Which means that you can make many more muffins and cupcakes than you could by just using a muffin tin. I used to hate having enough batter for four muffins left over. I mean, which is more frugal, to run the oven for four muffins or to throw out batter? Now you don’t have to choose.
Hey, check back tomorrow! And don’t forget about the Fall Scavenger Hunt coming soon to the Home and Dining Channel!

Excellent post and I need to get some of these. I feel bad using the paper ones so I go commando and then everything sticks. But these look great! Also nice title
Can I be part of your maybe hostile take over? I like take overs. Plus I can’t think of a better person to do that with than you.
Sure. I will be the Brain today and you can be the Brain tomorrow, o.k. Pinky?
I haven’t used silicon to bake with yet.. I don’t make cupcakes or muffins much but I was seriously eyeing off some silicon bundts recently – any ideas how they hold up?
rhid..I have not gotten them yet but they are next on my list. I will say that I had a tea room for a bit and we used silicone pans quite successfully.
The safety of Silicone Rubber cookware has not in my mind been proven. I am an engineer that uses silicone rubber to make parts cast from silicone rubber compounds and the material’s flexibility is in part do to the silicone oil present in the material’s structure. The oily nature of the silicone rubber’s surface testifies to the oils presence. It can be washed off only with very strong detergents, but continues to leach out to the surface over time with use. This is the same silicone oil that has been determined to be dangerous when used in silicone breast implants. I can’t help but wonder and worry about the long term effects of trace amounts of silicone oil mixing with the foods one bakes or cooks in this bake ware.
Interesting! I never thought of that aspect. I need to research that. Thank you.
I’m doing a post about these in my blog and wanted to let you know I’m linking to you.

I found this post by searching google for muffin paper silicone reusable, which took me to this blog post, “http://www.treehuggingfamily.com/one-small-step-silicone-baking-cups/”
What a novel idea! However, I am going to wait on purchasing something like this, due to the engineer poster nme’s questioning the safety of silicone rubber in bakeware. Has anyone researched this?
Yehudis this is the other post I wrote on this subject… http://www.blisstree.com/bakingdelights/silicone-baking-pans-safe-or-not/ There is nothing that would lead anyone to conclude that silicone baking pans are at all a danger to your health.
