Funny that you should submit a recipe for strawberry jam for Apples & Thyme! I had been eyeing the large flats at the grocers and the idea of making my own jam had popped into my mind. But...without Certo (never seen it here) I'd be wary of the results. Will have to add that to the list of things to bring back home from the states the next time I'm visiting. Lovely memory of your aunt Bernie.

Thank you Jeni! It isn't hard to do, but you might want to stick with freezer jam for the first go.

Oh, I am so glad you shared your memories with us. What lovely images. And I've never made jam before, but this is inspiring me as strawberry is my favorite!

Tiffany-in the packages of pectin there are instructions for freezer jam. Sounds like that is what your mom made. I have made that as well.

My mom, who now seems to have no realy "hobbies", used to love to garden and make jam. I don't remember what kind she would make, but I remember it in the freezer. When I think about the things I would like to do with my future children, I remember those times when my sisters and I helped in the garden or got to pick from our neighbors' (who were kind enough to share) raspberry bushes. Those were realyl good times :)

Last year, I made some strawberry rhubard jam and was actually surprised at how easy it was. It was my first time ever trying it and when it was done, I thought I must've done something wrong because it was just too easy. It came out delicious though, and now I want to grow rhubarb so I don't have to spend so much buying it (okay, I'm cheap.) My dad wants some rhubarb custard pie too. Never had that, but he says it's really good.

Anyway, I agree that homemade is *so* much better than store-bought.
