What is Grandma Molasses? I’m in the UK. The only molasses we can get here that I’m aware of is called treacle. Do you perhaps mean Golden Syrup?

. Grandma’s molasses is unsulphured molasses….I am not sure what the equivalent is there..but no, not golden syrup..I think that is more like Corn SYrup.
Can you substitue grape juice for wine? Can you recommend a sweet wine.
Wendy..sure you can or even substitute gingerale or water. I’d say a ruby port might be just right.
I have to agree that the Libby’s recipe is the only one I’ve ever really liked…but this recipe may be the one that scoots Libby’s out of the top contender spot! I hope I can find a pie pumpkin–they’re supposed to be in short supply this year…
By the way, I have both a ricer (with kind of a plunging handle) and a food mill (with a circular rotating handle) and the picture of your Mother’s unnamed kitchen tool looks like a food mill to me too (although they probably give you both the same result—my food mill has three different hole sizes so you can mill fine, medium and coarse).
Anyway, it you haven’t tried using a ricer to make the best fluffy mashed potatoes ever, you should do so this Thanksgiving–simple recipe: Idaho potatoes, melted butter, warmed half & half, salt, a bit of pepper and a tiny pinch of nutmeg….yum! Cook the potatoes, then drain in a colander. Put the cooking pan back on the heat and heat up the butter, half & half and seasonings. Rice the potatoes right into the pan, mix, adjust the seasonings and you are good to go! By the way–that’s my secret recipe, so don’t tell anyone…

i send a lot of cookie soverseas. i also use popcorn (airpopped not microwave) as packign peanuts.
I don’t ever recommend this idea because you can end up with weevils and other grain born bugs in your popcorn.
First of all, I’d like to thank you for all the hard work and research that went into your two lists of Best Cookies. I make all our old favourites, especially at the holidays, but I also like to find something new. Your lists have given me a lot of options.
I made the Maple-Brown Sugar Snickerdoodles and I *thought* I followed all the instructions but maybe you might have a thought about why the dough was kind of dry and had to be pinched and pressed to hold together. The sugar mixture didn’t stick really well because they were so dry. I used dry measure cups for the flour (I spoon the flour into the cup and then level it with a knife). Could that be where I went wrong? I used an extra-large egg.
I’m really looking forward to trying some of the others on the list. Again, thank you for sharing all this with cookie bakers everywhere
Grace…It does sound like too much flour. These measurements work well for me. Try cutting the flour by 1/2 cup and see how that works for you.
I love it, tart berries, and some nice red wine, plus crisp and plenty of sugar, mmm. PAMA pomegranate might be good too.

Oh Marye, I am so sorry to hear this!!!!! I’m sorry that I haven’t been around for the emotions as I have an excellent shoulder to cry on. I could have lent it to you.
Marriage is such a difficult thing especially in the age we live in. You are both in my prayers as well as all of your kids. I pray that the Lord will change Marc’s heart. You all have such a long tough road ahead whatever the outcome, but know that in the darkest of times Jesus is right there 5 steps ahead of you making a way.

SHirley, Thank you! I used dark but either would work. The key is to roast the pumpkin until it really gets dark.
These sound like THE perfect PB cookie! Just wondering…how would these cookies handle having added goodies like M&MS or chopped peanuts? Even without added goodies, I’ll be mailing these yummers to nieces and nephews working and studying all over the world.

Jill pie pumpkins are also called sugar pumpkins. They have more flesh and a higher sugar content than carving pumpkins.
Where can I find Raspberry Chocolate Chips?
Jerry, Hershey doesnt make them any more. I found them here http://www.organic-wave.com/25lb-raspberry-chocolate-chips-1m.aspx but it looks like you have to buy 25 lbs! I suggest using milk chocolate chips and dried raspberries as a substitute.

I think that even for those who don’t regularly imbibe, alcohol can be a really great seasoning in cooking. It can definitely add a little extra something to pasta dishes. This looks fantastic! I love the filling in the ravioli. So cute!

I made this tea cake last night and I love it. It’s wonderful with a hot cup of Earl Grey on the side. I’m sure you get asked alot, but my husband wanted to make sure that you use 1/2 a cup of brewed tea, not 1/2 a cup of tea leaves.

My Husband is on his 3rd deployment to Iraq. I find great joy out of sending him goodies and he loves having a taste of home. I send a wide variety of cookies, brownies, Rice Krispie Treats, and breads in a jar. I havent sent anything yet that has gone bad or fallen apart. What I use for packing them is Ziploc large rectangular containers . line them with parchment or wax paper, place the cookies in 2 rows long ways, top with parchment or wax paper, place a piece of bread on top of that(helps keep them moist esp summer time) then use Glad seal n wrap on top of that and press and seal inside the container. I do the same with brownies and rice Krispie treats. And I just recently started sending bread in a jar, found a recipe on line , and its great. And when you pack your boxes, pack them tight , leave no room for movement.

I am thinking of roasting my turkey the day before Thanksgiving. This would save a lot of work preparing the rest of the meal. I would then just reheat the turkey in a roaster and possibly pour chicken broth over it so it would not get dry.
It works fine. I usually cook mine a month ahead, carve it and freeze it in broth.
I’ve considered and you’ve got my vote. Not sure why they put you into the custard category because your version of Tiramisu is more cake, but hey, there’s some stiff competition in the cake category. Yours actually looks good and I bet will taste amazing, too. Printing recipe now!
