Happy Summer! Yesterday was the first official day of summer, although it has certainly felt like summer here for at least a month. In honor of that I am concentrating on “The Coolest Blog Recipes ” today.
The first one that caught my eye, and my taste-buds, this morning is Cantaloupe Ice Cream from Baking Soda at Bake My Day. When I was growing up my mom often fixed me a summer breakfast of half a cantaloupe with vanilla ice cream scooped into the cavity. I thought that it was absolutely the most intoxicating feast available in the universe. The idea of making ice cream from the cantaloupe brings back that taste to me and hopefully my cantaloupes will do well in the garden this year and I can make it myself.
Carrot Ginger Tea Scones with Cardamom Butter just sound like summer to me. Christy, over at Balance made them while taking a break from stressing about her Thesis. They are amazing!
Nemmie at Cast Sugar has created mini quiches. Now, I love these things because you can bake them and freeze them so that they are ready to warm up for a quick meal!
That is just one of the blessings of summer, being able to bake ahead and have a meal waiting in the freezer for you. Hers are beautifully photographed so check them out.
Dhanggit’s Kitchen has …Chocolate WHAT? Yep, Chocolate Saucisson. A fantastic take on French saucisson. Hmm..maybe Faux Saucisson? Anyway, rich chocolate, hazelnuts and other yummy things make a sausage that anyone could love.
All right! I was at the store last night and saw bananas clearanced at 99 cents a bag. Who could resist? I took ALL of them. Imagine my absolute DELIGHT this morning to find Coconut Banana Whipped Dream Trifle at Dozen Flours. It starts with a coconut pound cake and a rich banana curd. sigh.
If you haven’t noticed the Tuesdays with Dorrie crowd showing up on this blog and that you must have not been on the Internet lately. This past week they all did a fantastic sounding peppermint cream puff ring. Here is the TWD blog roll to check out these talented bakers, or join in the fun if you are so inclined.
Summer is a perfect time for fruit desserts and the Apricot, Almond, and Cream Cheese Crostata at Half Baked..uh..does NOT look half baked. It looks fabulous, summery and perfect.
Kevin at Closet Cooking has decorated his blog with a fantastic, fresh, and refreshing Strawberry and Feta Salad. Oh my gosh, this looks so good!
If you don;t run out and fire up the grill after looking at the Grilled Chicken with Basil Dressing at Sidewalk Shoes, well you must must not have a grill. The image is incredible. I am always amazed at how many truly talented photographers we have amongst us!
The perfect ending to any summer meal, and the perfect ending to today’s blogsurfing adventure, is surely tortoni. I have not seen a more beautiful one than the Stracciatella Tortoni Cake with Espress Fudge Sauce at Cream Puffs in Venice. Ivonne is an imaginative cook and a fantastic photographer and you will probably want to lick your computer monitor while you are there.
So, that’s it for today. What are you cooking this weekend?
