When I was growing up…in the ice age…you did not wear white shoes before Memorial Day or After Labor Day..some very wicked, rebellious souls cheated and got them for Easter but we knew that that was Fashion Faux Pas in the worst way.

Now everyone wears flip-flops (to think, we used to call them thongs) year round, with church clothes and jeans. But I think you are not supposed to wear white flip- flops after Labor Day.

Isn’t it funny how Summer really doesn’t end until the 21st but Labor Day seems to be the last hurrah. I mean after that everyone sort of accepts that summer is over and autumn has begun..and summer slinks away to sleep and dream of beaches and fireflies until Memorial Day… Caesar screwed up when he made the calender..Summer should start on Memorial Day and end on Labor Day. Serious, he needed to plan ahead.

Ready for the last of the season’s surfing?

So surfing the internet I found some cool stuff. Images that made me want to lick the screen. Recipes that made me check the pantry for ingredients…You guys are talented!

• Megan tempted me one morning with this Chocolate an Orange Tea cake..It was all I could think of for hours.

Didn’t she do a great job?  Now, with that I feel complete and ready to surf.

It is a windy, overcast..maybe will rain today kind of day…I have thoughts of heading out to the front porch to blog.  We have one of those great southern style verandas..the width of the main part of the front of our house and about 10 feet deep.  I have wicker up there.  This is what it looks like when it is clean:

Now…a rant.

First, I want to preface this with a nod to legality.  The truth is that a recipe cannot be copyrighted.  Once it is out there it is out there for anyone to use as they wish.  It is only right an fair.  However there is more or less a foodie creed, a code of honor if you will, that if you are using someone’s recipe you credit them, mention that they inspired you or whatever.  Most of the recipes I use on Baking Delights are either from my antique cookbook collection, or I have developed them.  Recipe development is a hobby that I enjoy. Normally if I am inspired by a recipe on someone else’s blog I have learned that it is a courtesy to mention them. When I first started blogging I was not aware of that and some of you kindly pointed me in the right direction.

Yesterday I bought the May/June issue of Tea Time Magazine, which is put out by Southern Lady.  I love this magazine and have been a big fan of it..I have promoted it on Kettle and Cup.  Imagine how I felt last night at 11 p.m when, paging through I saw a recipe for White Silk Tarlets with Berries which I had published May 18, 2008….Eleven months ago.  I thought, “WOW! What a cool coincidence, someone had the same idea as me!”

And then I started reading the recipe.  Every ingredient was exact and in the same proportions except they used raspberries and blueberries instead of raspberries and blackberries.  If you have Tea Time you can look on page 33 and compare it to my recipe linked above.  I had used graham shells that day because I was in a hurry..theirs look admittedly better.  I am sad, angry, and frustrated all at the same time.  At best it is rude…and I am disappointed.  I have contacted both b5media (the network that owns Baking Delights) and Tea Time Magazine.  Oh, and I will be googling the other recipes to make sure that they haven’t been lifted off you blogs as well. So ..we start off on that note.

On to more fun things, o.k.?

Recessionipes used one of my favorite flavors, ginger, in an ice cream recipe she adapted from David Lebovitz.  You have to love a blog where the bloggerista breaks the costs down for ya to per serving.  Way to go!

Imagine…Chocolate-Almond-Brown Rice Pudding.  Now, go see it.  Our own, Canadian Baker Too (Hendria) has the coolest image of this dish.  It looks luscious.

The flavor of Meyer lemons can’t be beat for intense lemony goodness.  Check out this Meyer Lemon and Chocolate Tart at Dessert First.

I like whole grains..and I like healthy food.  I know it doesn’t always look that way here but it is true.  Besides, the healthier you eat the mor eyou can handle the really GOOD desserts rather than limping along with the low- fat -low- sugar -cardboard -that -looks- like -dessert desserts.  This is on my list of must try for this summer when our kitchen gets too hot to cook, Quinoa, Watercress and Mango Salad with Lime-Curry Vinaigrette. That just sounds amazingly refreshing.

Tanna, from My Kitchen in Half Cups has an interesting Ethiopian Injera. It looks like it was a challenge, even for her..and I am trying to gain the courage to give it a go.  She is in Shelby Michigan at the moment, and it is funny because it seems that Michigan is one more thing we have in common.  Most of my relatives are there, the few I have left…and I spent many many summers there.

Also, Kelly at Evil Shenanigans and I were talking and we are thinking of having a Foodie Fiesta , Foodie Feast, Foodie something here in the Dallas area.  If you are a food blogger within driving distance of Dallas and you would be interested in getting together and maybe making it a semi regular thing, email me at maryeaudetATgmailDOTcom  (dont forget to substitute the @ and .) O.k..I am a little behind the times here but check out these cupcake pops by Busty Baker.   I am thinking they would be adorable for Easter.

Canadian Baker Too made some Krispie Toffee Triangles. O.k..I am an admitted Rice Krispie Treats Addict..this is almost unbearable to look at without  running to the store and getting the ingredients.

I have no clue what a Bakeapple is but Dani at Sweet Treats by Dani created amazing looking cookies called Bakeapple Blossoms.

I have a hard time keeping up with Inge from Vanielje Kitchen.  She flits about like an exotic butterfly, creating magic and then disappearing.  I found lemon zest and buttermilk waffles on her site today.  The are from a few weeks ago but they don’t look stale yet!

Another of my favorites is Valli from More Than Burnt Toast.  She has probably rounded out more than her share of Blogsurfing Saturdays but her images are so beautiful and the recipes are amazing.  Like the Roasted Butternut Squash Risotto she did for Taste and Create.  Brilliant.

Kevin of Closet Cooking. It seems every one of his images is incredible.  Not a bad one in the bunch.  Check out his post on Chicken Giouvetsi. Amazing.

I am always amazed that Maple is considered an autumn flavor when it is so definitely a spring food.  If you have ever wondered how it is made check out Jumbo Empanadas for a photojournal on maple.  Yum.  My aunt and uncle used to make it and the first batch was served for dinner…in soup bowls with spoons.  Yeah.

Root Beer Pot Roast on Restless Chipotle  …images are great..and you gotta love the blog  name.

Meeta always has amazing things.  I fell in love with the Tuscan Tomato and Bread Soup as soon as I saw the image.

Finally, Shazam in the Kitchen creates these Rhubard Ginger Muffins. Yum.

I have missed blogsurfing but life has been so extremely hectic that I haven’t been able to get there!

On a happy note, the VA called to confirm our number of dependents yesterdaya nd said that they had made a decision and we would be getting the letter with their decision in the next 10 days.  You gotta wonder why they just wouldn’t say, “Hey! Good news, as long as we have ya on the phone…this is what we decided…”

Anyway…here’s what I found this week…

Peanut Butter Candy Bar Squares from Bake or Break  look fantastic.  My kids have been trying to get me to make a recipe similar to this for a couple of weeks…perhaps I am inspired now…LOL!

The Blushing Hostess has a Harvest Bread with Cream Cheese Cinnamon Icing. MMM.

Homesick Texan has a recipe for Wacky Cake...I had not thought about it in YEARS.  Now I have to make one.

Daisy Lane Cakes is giving away a copy of the Sweet Melissa Baking Book..hurry!Have you noticed how many more cooking blogs there are getting to be? Wow!  It is hard to keep up with even your old favorites, let alone new interesting ones!

One of my favorite OLD friends is Courtney at Coco Cooks.  If you haven’t seen the baby shower cake she did please head over there and oooh and ahhh appreciatively. It is a brilliant piece of work.

Kevin always makes the best stuff…and has the best images…check out this pastitsio with greens.…a great vegetarian meal.

I am cutting this short today.  Here in Dallas, believe it or not, we are in the midst of a HURRICANE watch!  The sky is darkening ominously even as I type.

We have spent the morning moving the bucks (male goats) to a more protected place.  Their pen is covered by large pecan and black walnut trees which is nice for them in the summer but when we are expecting sustained 60 and 70 mph winds with higher gusts…well..I want them away from those trees!  Our goats a a small breed, about the size of a golden retriever, so the boys live in big Igloo dog houses. The houses are easy to move when we need to, like today!

The girls, of course, get special treatment since we milk them and they have a nice barn.

Anyway, Huck is building a sail for his bike because he wants to see how wind power will affect the speed that he can go.  :::see my eyes roll:::: he is all ready looking forward to fishing after the hurricane abates…

The house is surrounded by old pecan trees so I just told God that if it was time for us to move that the trees would go ahead and come down… I will let you know if I finally get to move to that farm in Maine or not!

So, grab a cup of tea with me, while it is dim and cozy here in the house.  Listen to the wind shake the trees, and the rain begin to splatter on the window..a very comforting sound I think…and browse these amazing finds!

Kitchen Sink Bundt Cake.  Pretzels, ganache, caramel, chocolate chips,peanut butter chips, oreos, salted peanuts…and more…oh my!

Peabody is amazing as always.  This time she has a pumpkin spice bread with maple cheesecake layer.

Cathy has an amazing sounding Reuben Sandwich Dip. I sat there gazing at it for ten minutes thinking..pretzels, crackers, bagel chips….fingers…

Lan, my adoptee, has created a lemon, lavender, and honey breakfast cake.  You all know how I feel about those ingredients, right? Yep…and the image is gorgeous.  Very bed and breakfast.

Please do not forget about the Booby Bake Off!

Perfect name for a blog, Chocolate and Chipotle…. Anyway check out these Triple Berry Lemon Muffins…mmmmm….

Jerry’s family can come visit any time if he will promise to bring this bacon and brisket sandwich.  Sigh.

HAve you tried the chocolate transfer sheets? I haven’t but I think that Megan has convinced me.

My Kitchen Snippets has the most amazing caramelized onion and tomato foccacia ….you can smell it through the computer screen!

So, how was your fourth of July? Ours was somewhat quiet…Great food, great friends…you know..the usual.

I think that I need to be more aware of my time and how I spend it. Sometimes I seem to just be focused on writing and researching for writing and I forget that there is an entire summer passing me by.  I mean, yes we do need to be able to eat but I think I just need to take a day and head out to Waxahachie to go antiquing, or to the Brazos to float on an innertube…or even to Canton to pick blueberries.  Do you feel the same?

Marc is addicted to Whoppers so when I saw this Chocolate  Malted Cake at Engineer Baker I knew I had to bookmark it!

I KNOW How to Eat a Cupcake and I could sure scarf down a dozen of these S’Mores Cupcakes! Maybe more.  Great job on those, Cassie.

When I was in high school we protested many things from girls not being able to wear pants to school (yes.  It’s true. And it was a public school) to guys not being able to grow their hair past thier collar.  We protested by walking out of class and staging a sit in in front of the school.  It was rebellious and exciting and sometimes it meant that some rules got changed.   Well Jenn at Leftover Queen is protesting, although I don’t think it is with a sit in.  She has had it with awful bread.  LOL! Check out her rant and get inspired to bake more bread int he coming months.
