Texas has lost its mind. I promise. The entire area of North Texas has decided to skip October entirely and get on with November. It is total insanity.
Nah…it’s just Texas weather.
So I spent the week shopping with my girls. I need to still get the boys outfitted for winter but that is usually a little easier. Both girls are hard to fit. Shiloh is nearly 14, tall and long legged so it would be hard enough without the hooker-wear all the stores seem to be carrying. Trying to find a simple dress for church that is not so low cut …read more

You know, I keep wanting to write October in the dates of things. Wishful thinking?
I usually like to add an image to share something about my life in the past week. I really can’t today..I mean, I DO have a picture of my neck but I don’t think you want to see that…especially on a food blog…I have been mostly in my room and it is a nice room…but not exactly fascinating. So for your viewing pleasure…a random image of my antique silver on one of my favorite antique plates: Salem China, Godey Victory pattern, circa very early 1940s. I …read more

Do you cook differently in August than you do for most of the other year? I do. More salads, more likely to have Banana Splits or Shortcake for dinner, more likely to eat lighter. It seems like August forces us to slow down and recognize that the year is passing and we have only a little time left to enjoy summer.
I dislike modern society. We have lost the ability to relax in a hammock in the back yard with a book, because it is too hot to do anything in the house. We don’t relax as all anymore. We have …read more

First Saturday of August. Texas has experienced an odd summer this year, as has most of the country. When I first moved here in the early 1970s we had hot, dry summers. In the 1980s they created numerous lakes in the area and the climate changed to hot and humid with milder winters. Maybe it is coincidence, or maybe it isn’t but what ever the reason our area has wildflowers you couldn’t find here in 1973, and I hardly ever see some that were prevalent in that time.
Anyway, what got me started on that was the fact that yet again …read more

Can you believe that we are looking at the LAST weekend of July? I know, it is so crazy. Sometimes I feel like I am in a train watching the scenery go by in a blur.More an more I am using my vintage dishes and getting comfort from these things that have been a part of my life since I was a child. The value in family heirlooms is not so much monetary as it is knowing that Mom used this item or that item. Using it myself brings back memories stacked on memories
The house is quiet this morning with …read more

I can’t believe that this is the next to the last Saturday in July. I had meant to do some serious planning so I could be more effective in the fall but it doesn’t look that that is happening any time soon. We are having a great time this summer, trying to get in things like mountain biking, the fountains at a local mall, and lots of family time. We met my oldest daughter and son-in-law there last week for a picnic and had a great time. I have started making Sean and Nick wear T-shirts because they are so …read more

I know..most of you are too busy setting off firecrackers and partying around the pool to properly surf. No matter, the nice thing about the Internet is it is (usually) here when you want it.
We generally have a huge 4th of July Picnic but this year Marc had to work and Erin and Jon had plans elsewhere. We will be going up to a picnic at our church later but for now? Very low key.
I made lemon butter bars to take to the picnic, and will be making a red, white, and blue heirloom potato salad using the Southwestern Potato …read more

The sun is shining and a cool breeze is blowing through my window as I write this. As most of you know, I am blessed to be restoring a 100year old home and I am in the sunroom watching cartoons with Kyrie and sipping Guatamalan coffee. The sunroom is west, so it has windows north, west, and south. The house is situated on a small knoll and looking out at the pasture to the west and all of the old pecan trees on the property it is rather like being in a tree house. Although there is a lot going …read more

We are having a cool, rainy, and wonderful day here in Dallas. We don’t get this type of weather very much and I always feel blessed when we do because (yes I know I am weird) it is my favorite. Very favorite.
I have been thinking about a lot of things this week. One of the things that has been swirling around in my head is how we spend out time. More accurately how I spend my time.
I was telling Marc yesterday that while computers have made everything *easier* they have stepped up the pace of living until it is unbelievably …read more

Here we are again, another Blogsurfing Saturday . You are going to love what I have found.
How has your week been? Mine was total insanity, as usual. My thyroid scans were Tuesday and Wednesday, and they did find some abnormalities. So I am being scheduled for a biopsy, and not sure when that is going to happen. Then we had Marc in to the VA on Thursday. Good thing the VA hospital is close by, between Marc and I we were there 3 times this week!
I got an email to do an interview with a bakery and you guys …read more
