A reader, Donna, asked if anyone had the recipe for chocolate cookies from the 1950s 4-H cookbook. It called for cocoa. This is the only one I was able to come up with that might be it. Does anyone else have anything ? If you do, either email me or leave it in the comments…
Going through three generations of recipes, these were the closest I could get. There was a 4-H on the card..and it looked old.
Vintage 4-H Chocolate Cookies
Mix these exactly like written
1/4 c shortening
1 c brown sugar
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 c light cream
1/4 c shortening
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 tbs. cocoa
Drop by spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 350 degrees .
But, even better, while i was checking out my old recipes for that I found an awesome vintage recipe for refrigerator cookies. DO you remember the rolls of cookie dough that you make ahead and stick int he fridge to slice and bake? Well check back tomorrow for the recipe!

This is not the cookie recipe. The cookies are called colassal cookies. It is a great recipe.
thanks! I will see what I can do to find it!
i would love to have the 1950′ or early 1960’s chocolate chip recipe I made in 4-H.
Thanks
My FAVE 4-H cookies of ALL time were discontinued a while ago. I’m not sure what they were called, but they came like 6 or 8 to a package, and they had marshmallow, rasberry (or maybe strawberry), some kind of graham cracker, and were covered with chocolate. They were square in shape. I would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to find this recipe, or where I could buy them if some other company makes them. The only thing I was ever told, was the company that was responsible for the cookies went out of business and took the recipe with them?!?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the request for 4_h cookies. I would LOVE to find the recipe for peach cobbler that I used to make from my 4-H cook book. It would have been in the ’60’s, it was an easy, great recipe.
I will see what I can do.
Wow – speaking of vintage 4-H recipes, I am looking for one for their coconut flake macaroons; probably in the 50’s or 60’s. These cookies were made with corn flakes and were very light and airy when you bit into them. Any help out thre?
I have an old recipe for them, it is in my new cookbook actually, but don’t know if it is the 4-H version.
I would love to see the recipe; these cookies were very meringuey (is that a word?) and felt very light and sweet when eaten.
