Welcome to Our Christmas House

One of the fun things about Christmas is to tour other people’s homes and see their decorations. So, here is a quick, not so great image wise, tour of our house-from the inside. I haven’t gone out to get pictures of the outside yet..but it is very simply done in keeping with the age and style of our home..just some greenery and wreaths.
As you come in the door the reception parlor and hearth is to your right-
and our formal Christmas tree is to your left-only this picture is taken FACING the door, rather than away from it…never mind.
The tree is 8 feet but we raise it up on boxes to accommodate the village underneath. That is Marc’s..and I add to it every year.
In front of you, as you walk in the door is the main hall and stairway-
I line it with my nonbreakable snowman collection. If you go upstairs you will come to one of my favorite places in the house-
The upstairs landing, and a small bench that is nice to just sit and sip a cup of tea on while looking at the upstairs tree….The kids have trees in their bedrooms but, please, let’s not go there….
This is the kitchen tree. I know you can’t see it well..but it is a red white and blue Americana theme. The cabinet next to it is the forerunner of the hoosier cabinet and you probably recognize it and some of the dishes from my images..I use it as a prop alot.
Christmas is such a special time, memories, decorations, the food, the traditions…and time passes so quickly … Enjoy this holiday season with those you love. No matter what is going on in your life choose to be alive and choose to be positive. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a blessed New Years.
Not that I won’t be back before then….

I love it! It reminds me of my great grandmother’s house, especially the chair. My grandmother had a loveseat in that style. You have a gorgeous home.
Thanks Julie.
Looks absolutely beautiful! (I see the star in the window in the background – sorry for your sacrifice) I can see why you are never hurting for a backdrop
Lewis- My son is alive and well. It is a BLUE star not a gold one. And that flag is from WW1…in keeping with the age of hte house I hunted down an antique flag..I love it. I just found out that my son is not going to Iraq for his second tour but going to Japan instead.
OH MY! I am so sorry, couldn’t really tell the color from the picture. I served 9 years in the Navy and knew what the flag meant :/ in these times you never know… glad to hear about the change to Japan though!
I meant that many of hte pics were hard to shoot because of it…LOL!
Thanks ever so much for letting us peak into your home Marye. LOVE the decorations!
It was nice to tour your home. I love to see where people live. It tells a little about that person. Merry Christmas from my home to yours!
Beautiful! I love Christmas decorations.
With the trees in the rooms you get a better idea of just how big these rooms really are!
I love how you mention the snow men are unbreakable. So, how many times a day do you hear yourself saying: “hey, ______, go back up (or down) the stairs and set the snowmen upright?” or something similar?
Beautiful! I love how you raise the tree…might borrow that idea when I no longer have pesky toddlers!!! I love older houses too…we tried to buy a 1910 farmhouse, but it needed so much work it wasn’t habitable. So we bought our current house…built in the 50s, so still has that older charm
I love how you’ve displayed your Christmas village. My grandmother gave me several houses and shops from her village this year, and I’ve been at a loss how to best display them. I may “borrow” your idea:)
Hi Marye
Love your Christmas village!
We have had to change the way we display ours, because we adopted my late mother in law’s Siamese cat. Ms Kitty has taken up residence on top of the piano, and is vigorous in protecting her space. Anything that gets placed on the piano ends up on the floor. Anything that lands on the floor gets eaten by the dogs.
So, village is not on the piano, and is now in the hutch! LOL!
Merry Christmas!
Noreen
Hi Marye
Just wanted to tell you about a new Christmas doll I’ve just finished. It’s the Cupcake Fairy!
You can see her at

She’s a different kind of Christmas goodie: Low calorie, but oh so sweet!
hugs
Noreen
valli- you are very welcome…

megan- i think you are right…i want to make a smart alecky comment about what my old, run down, in need of restoration house says about me but..i won’t.
ginger- really I don’t have to say that-anymore. Kyrie is now 4 1/2 and very good about staying out of stuff..but two years ago…YIKES.
Tiffany- this house has been abandoned and was overrun with raccoons and mice and… it was awful. sometimes when i get frustrated at how much is not done i look back on the pictures from when we first moved in!
Linette- apparently the villages under the tree are a French tradition? My husband is French Canadian and his mom always did it that way…Up on the highest point, which you can’t see very well, is a chalkware creche from the 1940s. I like how it looks alot….
Noreen – we had a cat like that..she was 15 when we had to put her down a few years ago..she used to climb up in the middle of the village and sleep. :/ I need to go see that doll!
