Breastfeeding Photos: A Poll

In light of the controversies about breastfeeding photos on Facebook, MySpace and LiveJournal, I am wondering how you feel about the appropriateness of having breastfeeding pictures taken of you and your nursling. Do you have them taken?

If you have had breastfeeding photos taken, what do you do with them? Have you shared them with friends, posted them on a blog, or used them for avatars on web sites? Is there an age of the nursling after which breastfeeding photos are no longer appropriate? What about this news story (via Blacktating) that tells how a family’s children were taken away by child protective services when the photo development service saw pictures of the baby nursing?

I have a few photos of me nursing, some I would post to LJ, Facebook, etc and some that are just for us. In fact, my husband is more than happy to snap our photo. I’m glad we have them because now my 12 month old won’t sit still long to nurse and it’s a nice reminder of the quiet, hour long nursing sessions we used to have.
I have pictures nursing my second born just after he was born. I was so excited that he latched on so immediately and so well, I made sure to get LOTS of pictures of it! I personally wouldn’t post my photos anywhere, because I tend to be more towards the discreet side while nursing. I do nurse anywhere and anytime, but I almost always use a nursing cover. Although I am SUPER proud to be breastfeeding, I just don’t want other people seeing my boobs.
I have photos of my son nursing at various ages, but I had professional shots taken when he was around nine months. I have them. I love them, and I wish I had even more pictures!
I voted no I don’t think it’s appropriate, and I wanted to explain my answer a bit more. It’s not appropriate for me, since I’m a very modest woman, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable, and I just love looking at photos of nursing babies, it’s such a beautiful thing! I’m just not comfortable nursing in front of anyone except VERY close friends and family.
No professional pics taken here but I wish I had. I am so glad that I have the pictures that I do have but I don’t share them on places like facebook, the audience is too wide (even with privacy settings) for my comfort level. The only place that I have shared is on breastfeeding forums where I know the people reading/looking are used to seeing these types of pictures.

I had professional pictures taken by Annie Lance (http://www.annielance.ca) and have one of them on my blog at http://www.phdinparenting.com/2008/08/01/happy-world-breastfeeding-week/ . I have a wonderful album with the professional pics in them and have a few of them on the wall in our bedroom. I also share the same pic that is on my blog as my facebook profile for the protests there.
My kids scrapbooks have lots of photos of them breastfeeding in them because it was a key part of their lives and it would seem odd to photograph everything else and not that.
