Continuing the Breastfeeding Product Reviews series (see Medela Nipple Shields and Traditional Medicinals Mother’s Milk Tea if you missed those), this week’s product for review is Soothies Gel Pads for Nursing Moms. I have heard mothers recommend Soothies for sore nipples during the early days of breastfeeding. Have you tried them? Did they help with nipple pain? What was your experience — would you recommend them to a friend? Please leave a comment — short, long, good, or bad!

I’ve used these and they do feel good, but they aren’t contoured–they’re flat. Thus, they flatten out the breast, which looks very odd. Also, they aren’t really soft at all, they are hard! All that being said, when desperate, they do feel nice after being in the ‘fridge for a while.
Thanks for your helpful review, Lacey!
Soothies saved my boobs!!!
My son had so many difficulties nursing that my Lactation Consultant used the word traumatized to describe my nipples. She gave me a pair of Soothies Gel Pads and boy did they feel good.
My breastfeeding experience included using half a bottle of Lanolin cream, nipple shells, nipple shields…every trick in the book. The Soothies were the one thing that provided immediate relief.
Medela makes these as well, and they’re shaped in a way that mkes them easier to ben over the curve of your breast. I have a one-month old and they definitely help on those particularly sore days.
i used these, but i think it was the Medela brand. they saved me one night after my daughter latched herself on. i woke up in a lot of pain with a huge, swollen bruise on the side of my nipple. the cool pads helped me keep nursing on the injured side.
These had just come out with my second child, and are absolutely wonderful! Very helpful during that extremely sore stage of nursing in the first couple of weeks.
Hi, I have to come back and re-comment on this.
I think I am a total idiot, because I actually didn’t understand that the gel pads were stuck to a hard plastic board (thus, me thinking they were hard and not contoured). I thought that I was doing something wrong! So anyways, I accidentally found this out and just wanted to point out that my review actually is flawed.
