I've got to believe that different babies have different reactions, and that it may depend too on the anesthesiologist and the level and type of medication administered, and whether there were any complications with the birth. My baby was like yours though -- alert and ready to nurse!

I had an epidural and I had no problems breastfeeding right away. My baby was definately not sleepy. He was alert and looking around and crying (loudly). I have 1 child and I would like to have an epidural for the next one. I only wish I had gotten it sooner for this one. I don't see the reason to endure the pain. My labor was not long (8 hrs) and I had no complications.
