Finding Your (Breastfeeding) Tribe

It has been almost two months since my move to California, and I am starting to feel a little homesick and a little lonely. It became quite obvious to me that I am worried about fitting in here in California when I looked at my two latest selections from the library: Slummy Mummy and Odd Mom Out
(both are fun romps about motherhood, by the way).
Thank goodness for La Leche League. I have attended meetings for two local groups and met a really nice bunch of women. They have already helped me find a good pediatrician, the best local parks, and where to shop, and have clued me in to which teachers I should request for first and second grade for my school-age daughter. It is just nice to know that there’s a place I can go — at least twice a month — and find a group of women who feel much the same way I do about breastfeeding, nutrition, and parenting.

You are a kindred spirit! I moved to a new town 3 months ago and am having a hard time feeling like I fit into this small town. I worry that I may be a little too crunchy for these folks.
I did join LLL in a neighboring town and what a lifesaver! When my baby had thrush and I had nipple yeast, they were the only people to really help us. One of the leaders had me over to her house to teach me about positioning and other remedies to help get us through the tough times. She’s also counseled me over the phone when mastitis and plugged ducts came calling. I only hope I can be as helpful to another new mother some day
