Breastfeeding 1-2-3

Have You Ever Tasted Breast Milk? A Poll

Many of us tasted breast milk as infants of course, but have you ever tasted it as an adult? Maybe you were curious like Friends on television, illustrating a point like this professor, using it to treat cancer, or you have a breast milk fetish.

It’s the easiest poll ever!

My husband thought it was weird that I’d never tasted it, so finally I tried some left in a bottle that my son didn’t drink. My best description – backed up by others – was that it tastes like the milk left in a bowl after you’ve eaten Frosted Flakes. Very, very sweet. Certainly not something I would drink, but I can understand why babies like it so much!

  2. Judy says:

I feel the need to clarify that others agreed that *their own* or their partner’s breastmilk tasted like Frosted Flakes milk. I haven’t been having other people taste my breastmilk!!!

  3. LOL! Don’t worry — I didn’t picture you offering up your milk for others to try!

I have tasted my own and thought it tasted like cantaloupe. :) Come to think of it though, Frosted Flakes milk is also a good description!

  4. Lori says:

I had to sample my milk to find out when it goes “bad”. I have excess lipase in my milk, and it breaks down my milk in less than 24 hours. It only tastes good w/ in 12 hours or so after being the fridge. After that, it’s disgusting! Soapy. Ugh.

  5. jamey says:

actually…it is not that bad at all…I think it is silly what people make of breastmilk..they create a taboo of something so natural that it becomes this fetish issue…

funny….people have no problem with OTHER MUCH more intimate acts…why does something this natural get the heave ho?

if anyone does have a question about ANR…

    go to

and learn from the source…there are plenty of official websites where a real educated view of the subject can be seen without the stereotypes and presumptions are taken away.

  7. Julie says:

I tasted my milk when my son was a baby just out of curiosity, it was very sweet. Right after my son weaned, He was 2, he was eating cantaloupe, a really great sweet, perfectly ripe cantaloupe and he started giggling to himself. I asked him what was so funny and he said “it tastes like you milk mommy!”
    Cute!

My son wasn’t taking the bottle as usual, and it turns out that my parents left a bottle of milk out all day while watching him. Since we left it on the counter for a couple hours to warm to room temp, they decided that meant it didn’t spoil! I had to taste it to see and…you guessed it…blech! I had tasted it when it was not spoiled, so I sure knew the difference.

  9. Maria says:

I tasted the breastmilk out of curiosity and thought it tasted like a really sweet milk. It was good, but I don’t drink it regularly.

  10. Melissa says:

I was pumping one day at work and I noticed a lot of bubbles in one of the breastmilk collection bottles (more than normal), so unscrewed the bottle and took a sip to make sure it didn’t taste like dish liquid, and my milk tasted really sweet. I can see why my little girl prefers it over formula. Her pediatricians had me supplementing after she was born due to her loosing too much weight, and it was a fight getting her to take it…I never tasted formula, but I can only imagine from the smell!

I did a walk for breastfeeding awareness week when I was 9 months pregnant, and they gave us all bracelets that said, “Babies Love Breastmilk” and now that I have one of my own I know they really do. :)

  11. Elaine says:

My BF was curious and tasted my breastmilk after our baby was born. He said it was sweet. I did taste it once myself and agree it is thin and sweet.
The BF still does it during our lovemaking.. i guess most couples would.

  12. Sarah says:

I had to taste mine at the Heathrow airport in order to get it on the plane. I agree- it’s very sweet!

  13. crystal says:

My baby absolutely would not take formula so I tasted my milk to see what the difference was. Mine is very sweet so I could see why baby does not like formula – I’m not even trying the formula in a bottle anymore! I got on this site to see if it is normal that my milk is so sweet – glad to see it is!

  14. Adam says:

    What could be more natural?
Or more un natural than humans drinking animal milk.
Breastfeeding is a great gift and medical research is still finding more benefits from it.

  15. Janice says:

I have never had the pleasure of tasteing breast milk and would love to. I often think of inducing lactation. I am in my 60’s and my desire keeps getting stronger to enjoy both receiving and giving. What a wonderful thing to share.

  16. cory says:

I am a father and my wife is nursing our 3rd child I have tasted breast milk and formula when caring for the kids when my wife was at work due to me working graveyard shift. I have to test the temp of the milk on my lips so the little ones do not get burned and the formula taste gross but real breast milk has a sugery maple like taste that after having 3 kids I have grown to actuall kinda like the sweet taste of real human milk a little bit. I do not understand why we think that drinking human milk is more gross then drinking milk from a cow an animal that is not even human with milk not intended for humans to consume but for cows to drink.

  17. Matt says:

I’m a father of an almost 1 year old who is still nursing. Since breast milk is one of those things that if it gets too cold, or too warm (sitting out too long) it will affect the composition slightly – thus affecting the taste.

Since my wife pumps, I have to make sure that that precious milk that I’m giving my child is “perfect.”

My first experience was after I took a bottle out of the freezer, and it had this yellowish tinge to it. Not being able to get in touch with the doctor or anyone else I knew, I had to taste it first, so not to give bad milk to my child. It was…… different.

SOOOOOOO to compare, I tried some that was just pumped. Whoa….. that’s all I can say…. Much different – frozen vs. fresh.

I can’t imagine drinking it on an everyday basis – or for more than a sip for that matter, but it had a very sweet taste – albeit not so sweet smell. Since breast milk isn’t processed, it has all the fat content still in there, which it was makes it quite interesting to us, but has an uncontrollable pull on your child!

So to answer, yes, I have tasted my wife’s breast milk, although it was weird to do so – to me, not my wife!

very interesting poll… actually I am 26 wks pregnant now and we discovered that my milk has already come in.. and i am leaking a few drops. So.. my husband had to taste and I said he was crazy and wont let him. Some gentle persuasion and I did let him taste it. He said it was salty-sweet and he liked it :) . This is colostrum and not yet milk. So we think Milk might taste different.

I thought this was so weird.. i dont know if any other couples have done this while pregnant.

  19. MIKE says:

We have 2 kids and I tried my wifes milk once. It was ok, kinda bland. Off white color.

Now I assisted my wife by “milking” her by hand and pump, and collecting her milk for both our babies a t the time,,,16 and 11 yrs ago.

    • Leah (subscribed) says:

I can’t say my hubby has ever helped with the pumping process except by taking the bottles from me and putting them in the fridge! I don’t even like for my husband to watch my pump, so I’m not sure I could have him do it for me lol. Good for you Mike, that you and your wifey are comfortable doing that for your babes!

  20. Dawn (subscribed) says:

Hubby found this poll on the internet when we were having a debate on whether women let hubby’s taste their breast milk. I am currently nursing a 6 week old and during lovemaking i leaked – i sprayed and he got a taste! he says its sweet and wants more and i say no! lol – i think i will let him
