Milking You to Benefit Donor Milk Bank

the-other-white-milk.jpgNow this proposition is really win-win, just in time for the holidays. Buy a Lactivist t-shirt in December and the net proceeds benefit a non-profit donor milk bank! Keep in mind that Cafepress.com is running a limited-time free shipping offer for orders totaling $50 or more. A little background….

Jen of “The Lactivist” blog fame used to donate breast milk to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Ohio, one of a handful of non-profit milk banks across the country affiliated with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. Remember we talked about how important it is to support non-profit milk banks that are not affiliated with for-profit companies?

The Mothers’ Milk Bank of Ohio will celebrate its second anniversary in January. That makes it a relatively young milk bank, and Jen reports that it can use all the financial support it can get as the bank needs to pay for very expensive equipment and other start-up costs. It’s no wonder the bank struggles financially when milk from a non-profit bank runs $3-$5 an ounce while milk from a for-profit bank sells for $30-$45 an ounce! Furthermore, the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Ohio dispenses over 20 percent of its milk without reimbursement! Imagine how many critically ill babies and needy families that milk benefits.

im-no-weaner.jpgJen very generously has decided to donate 100% of her profits from December sales of her t-shirts to the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Ohio. She’s got many cute and clever designs, including some brand-new ones!

To read more about Jennifer’s fundraising efforts for the milk bank, visit The Lactivist blog. I promise to report back the amount of funds raised and any reaction from the milk bank. Happy shopping!
