Breastfeeding 1-2-3

New Ohio Breastfeeding Coalition

When an Ohio daycare discriminated against Robin Neorr by charging more to feed her daughter breastmilk, she didn’t just get mad. She decided to work for change. She got involved in the movement of lactation activism and formed the Ohio Breastfeeding Coalition. Among other things, the group will work for legislative change, starting with revising the child care guidelines so that day care centers cannot discriminate against breastfed babies.

If you live in Ohio and want to help Robin and fellow Ohioan Jennifer of The Lactivist promote the cause of breastfeeding in that state, you can join the Ohio Breastfeeding Coalition email list on Yahoo Groups. You can make a difference! Just look at the success of the Arkansas Breastfeeding Coalition which recently found a sponsor for legislation that would exempt breastfeeding from the Arkansas indecent exposure law.

To all that may read this. Daughter had her first court appearance today.. do not know why she needed to be there for the judge only met with the lawyers in a close room beyond the child mother and father. Judge not meeting either parent took it upon him self to grant full week end visitation and 3 days per week of 8 hour visits by the father to be able to take this poor little 6 month old Andrew away from his breast feeding mother. Anyone wishing to help picket or do a walk for mother and children rights to be able to breast feed thieir child and take this right away from the Male Old Judges that have zero clue upon how important it is to breast feed your baby, please call me 256-494-0406. Want to get this out to the public with either a walk or picket asap. Today Is Jan 15th, 2008 want to organize something by Monday. Thanks Denise Phelps

  2. Denise, is your daughter in Ohio or Alabama? Either way I suggest she contact her local La Leche League leader for information about the state laws on breastfeeding (sometimes it can be taken into consideration in custody cases) and maybe a referral to a lawyer who can help.
