angela, welcome to b5. we need this kind of blog… here’s an angle i can share… when i breastfed my daughter, i didn’t know she was allergic to milk, eggs and protein. by 2 months she was having ezcema which only got worse until i stopped nursing her. but i did nurse her for 8 months. i didn’t know the milk, eggs and peanut ingredients in my food were passed to her too… i would still breastfeed my other children but just being careful to take allergens out of my diet. it would have been helpful to have something like this to give me more information about breastfeeding and allergies. now that you’re live i know you’re going be a help to moms like me.

    Thanks Grace!

I had to go on an elimination diet for a while to see if the cause of my daughter’s ezcema was allergies (turns out it wasn’t a food allergy – she was allergic to harsh detergents and soaps).

It’s even more important for babies with allergies to breastfeed. Not only is it best for the baby, but it can be very difficult to find an appropriate formula (soy is also a common allergen and some babies end up needing special and very expensive formula!)

Thanks for the welcome, Ruth! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the nursing relationship – you definitely should be proud!
