I can see people having that first reaction to the book, and I just want to impress upon them how "bad" my first two births were. The babies and I ended up being fine, but they were not the empowering, positive experiences I had hoped for - the type of experiences described in the book. Now that I am planning a home birth, I get a lot of interesting reactions -- a lot of stories of "thank goodness I was in a hospital because X, Y, Z happened" and I just wonder to myself, well, maybe X, Y, and Z wouldn't have happened if you weren't at a hospital that gave you A, B, C interventions. I'm one of the first in our group, so there will be more soon!
