Breastfeeding 1-2-3

Would You, Could You, in a Tram?

This toddler nursing photo shows a mother and her son breastfeeding in the tram car at the San Diego Zoo. I wish more people understood that breastfeeding helps make such excursions with little ones simpler and more fun! Many mothers know that “extended” breastfeeding offers health benefits and makes parenting easier!

Love it. My husband makes fun of me because I have a “collection” of pictures of me nursing in “odd” or famous places…Niagara Falls…Fenway Park…at the top of a ferris wheel…the basketball hall of fame…Salem…you can take a nursing baby anywhere!

Shelly — we’re going next month to Fenway for our daughter’s 1st baseball game — she’ll be 15 months. Any suggestions for our visit? Were you able to just nurse in your seats or did you find somewhere comfy?

  2. Yes oh Yes, Sam I am!
This is my absolute favorite nursing toddler pic so far!
I love the enjoying solids post also…I am forwarding the info to my DIL so I hope she will “allow” my grandson to self feed and make a mess. It’s hard to soften her control…. Thank you!

Hey! That’s me! I love how this photo has been so popular on the web :-) My husband blogged it over a year ago.

  4. Angela,

I’m so glad you found my photo on flickr! Ronen was only 21 months old when that photo was taken — not even two-thirds of the way through his breastfeeding life. Yet even at such a young age, he had such a serious look sometimes.

You’re so right about breastfeeding making these excursions easier — tired toddlers are highly prone to meltdowns, and having the ability to quickly re-center them is a huge help, making the visit to the zoo more fun for the parents as well as the kid (not to mention everyone within earshot).

    My wife rocks!

    • Dave, thanks so much for making the picture available on Flickr. There are not too many breastfeeding photos that are marked for creative commons and commercial use, and I really appreciate being able to feature this photo. I’m sure you realize how rare toddler nursing photos are out there, and yours is a great one!

Yay! I’m so happy to see this!!! I am still nursing an only 13-month old baby girl and already feeling scrutinized… Lots of people making comments to me that she is too old to nurse… I makes me feel so much better that I’m not the only one who chooses to let my baby nurse as long as she likes.. Thank you thank you so much for your breastfeeding pride!! You make me a happier more confident breastfeeder!!!!
