Be Sweet to Your Heart

blood pressure

I was reading this month’s Family Circle magazine and found a blurb about chocolate in the health section, titled “Be Sweet to Your Heart:”

Tea and chocolate have been touted as heart smart, but you’re better off reaching for the latter, reveals a new review. “Cocoa causes systolic and diastolic blood pressure to drop about 5 and 3 points, respectively, while tea doesn’t appear to have much of an effect,” says study author Dirk Taubert, M.D., Ph.D., of the University Hospital of Cologne in Germany.”

~ Family Circle Magazine, August 2007

This is fine by me as I’d much rather reach for some chocolate than tea! What do you think?

aaah! another excuse to have my bar of chocolate!
did the study say if milk or dark have the same effect?

  2. Heather says:

Hi Grace! The article didn’t mention dark or milk, but my best guess would be dark because it has a higher percentage of cocoa in it.

    Hi Heather!

Now these are the type of studies I always put stock in. :)

I’ll opt for both the tea and the chocolate. Just to ensure I’m the picture of health, you know!

  4. Heather says:

Hi Jules! I’m right there with you. I’m not a huge tea fan but hey, better to be safe than sorry! :D
