Chocolate Beer?

I do love chocolate, and I’ve got to admit a certain fondness for beer as well, but I’m not too sure about this combination.  SABMiller has announced that their US subsidiary, Miller Brewing Company, will be producing Frederick Miller Classic Chocolate Lager in time for Christmas this year.

Apparently they’ve spent a lot of time trying to get the perfect chocolate flavor into the beer (hmm, I could have helped them with that).  Chocolate beer is an interesting idea, but I think I’ll reserve judgement on this one until I try it.  Could be good, or it could be just plain yuck.

I’m not sure about this either. I also love chocolates and beer but chocolate beer? I’m also a coffee person and I don’t like spiked cooffee products like Bailey’s. So chocolate beer… Maybe not.

Its hard to even imagine how those flavours would combine. Would it taste like chocolate, with a hint of beer? Or would it definitely be a beer taste, with just an extra flavour to it? Or something in between? Like I said, I’d have to taste it because imagining it is just beyond me.

I’ve had a taste of chocolate beer at a brewery I visited in Utah. Let’s just say I had 2 glasses of it and it was delightful.
