Chocolate Cravings Explained

chocolate.JPGChocolate is so yummy that even the bacteria in your gut want it! Well, kind of. From the files of “I Never Would Have Guessed That”:

A small study links the type of bacteria living in people’s digestive system to a desire for chocolate. Everyone has a vast community of microbes in their guts. But people who crave daily chocolate show signs of having different colonies of bacteria than people who are immune to chocolate’s allure.

The rest of the article is pretty interesting too, although this line:

“Still to be determined is if the bacteria cause the craving, or if early in life people’s diets changed the bacteria, which then reinforced food choices”

seems like a “maybe, maybe not” kind of thing. Interesting theory either way.

Hi Heather! I have been reading chocolate bytes for quite some time now! Knowing that you’re the chocolate expert, may I ask you a question? What are some of the most popular or the weirdest chocolate around the world? I am doing a speech on chocolate and can’t seem to find the info =\ Thanks!

I’m not so sure about this article……heard it on the news the other day and thought it might be reverse research…..meaning they found out that all these people who crave a certain type of chocolate have this particular bacteria in common…..not necessarily that *all* people who have this bacteria crave this type of chocolate….kwim?
