Premium M&M’s Review

Have you tried the new Premium M&M’s? M&M’s/Mars released five new flavors earlier this summer: Chocolate Almond, Mocha, Triple Chocolate, Raspberry Almond, and Mint Chocolate.

I picked up the Mocha and Triple Chocolate at the grocery store last week. At about $3 a pop for 6 oz I couldn’t afford to get all of them!

The packaging is different than the usual bags – these are in slim recloseable boxes and the M&M’s are in a resealable plastic package inside. The candy itself is a little bit larger than a regular M&M (smaller than a peanut M&M, though) and has some pretty speckling patterns on the outside.

I bit into one, expecting it to more or less be an expensive M&M. I was very surprised to find that there was no crunchy candy shell – it was soft! My first thought was that it had somehow gotten soggy (I don’t know how or why, it was just my first reaction) before realizing that was how it was supposed to be.

The Triple Chocolate, to me, was pretty unremarkable. They were dry and didn’t hit smooth or creamy. These contain layers of dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate and there really wasn’t one that stood out, which I suppose is the point. In the aftertaste I actually got more of the white chocolate, which I’m not at all crazy about. I wouldn’t buy these again (though I’m already starting to wonder how they’d hold up in a batch of cookies or brownies..!).

The Mocha were a small step up from the Triple Chocolate. They also have the disconcerting soft shell with a brown spattered pattern. The coffee flavor is noticeable but there’s not so much of it that it becomes that fakey coffee flavor. The chocolate is also on the dry side, which I think is just the norm for M&M’s since the usual hard shell kind of helps detract from that and doesn’t make it as noticeable.

Overall I just wasn’t impressed with the Premium M&M’s and am kind of glad I didn’t get the other three, though an almond center might have worked better with the dry chocolate than just flavoring.

Have you tried the Premium M&M’s? What did you think?

I haven’t even heard of them! This is probably because I live in Canada–we’ve only just gotten Dove chocolates here in BC, and it may be a while till we see the Premium M&M’s–or never, if they don’t fly well in the States. But I must confess, none of the varieties sound very appealing to me.

Not impressed at all! I did get them for much cheaper via sales and coupons. About 50cents a box (about all their worth). I will be sticking to the old fashioned M&M’s. I like the crunchy shell. I place M&M’s in the microwave for 1 minute, till the chocolate is melted and they crack. Then like to put them in my mouth and let the melted chocolate dissolve. Can’t do that with these. I won’t be buying them again. I do have to admit the best ones were the Almond ones. The raspberry were terrible. After trying each flavor the used them as bribe material for my 3 and 5 yr old.

I have only tried the Raspberry and Mocha. They were on the sale rack in the store. I HATED the raspberry, but loved the Mocha and went back and bought more…they are also good in brownies and cookies. I do have to admit that I was wanting that crunchy shell, but the flavor of the Mocha is great

    Hi
I’m from Montreal and I bought a supply of premium M&M’s this past summer while in the USA. I bought milk chocloate flavor and mint flavor..both absolutely sublime !
This is a perfect “senior” indulgence as there is no hard shell to crack my teeth !.

PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET A NEW SUPPLY IN MONTREAL, QUEBEC ??????

    I’m having withdrawal !

My husband visited New York City this past weekend. He brought home the Mocha, Raspberry, and Mint. The Mocha is incredible! I did not want to share. The Raspberry is very good. I reluctantly shared those. The Mint was a little too strong. I eat chocolate on a daily bases, and am always trying new things, cheap and expensive. Three dollars for 6 oz. is quite a bargain compared to others chocolates on the market. Not only do they taste great, but they look great too. I will definitly be buying the Mocha and keeping them in house, that is as long as they last.

I just saw the commercial about 10 minutes ago for the raspberry ones and i immediately had to google them because I had never heard of them before. They look interesting. I’m suprised to see almost as many positive as negative comments about them. Normally it leans more towards one side or the other. I guess I’ll just have to try them myself. The almond and mocha sound the best

I love the triple chocolate but I wish I was finding them for $3.00 a box. They are $5.00 a box here in Indiana at least at the drugstores. Where can I get coupons?

I got this free with a Mother’s Day card purchase at CVS. When I looked at all the fake food coloring I lost the desire to even try one. I will throw them out tonight when I get home.
