Review: Nestle’s Butterfinger Buzz

This is probably one of the easiest reviews I’ll ever do, because the tweaked version of the product tastes exactly like the original! If you’ve ever had a Butterfinger then you know what Nestle’s new Butterfinger Buzz tastes like too.
I was sent some king-sized packs to try out, and each pack has two separate bars in it, each bar about 3 inches long. It’s been a long time since I bought a king-sized Butterfinger, but I do know the last time I did it was one gigantic bar, which I could never finish in one sitting. Having two separate bars was pretty nice since each serving (1 piece) was the perfect size.
I didn’t hesitate when I opened the first pack — I love Butterfingers and really wanted to see if there was a difference between these caffeinated bars and the originals! And I actually couldn’t tell any difference in taste. Sometimes the hyped-up versions will have almost a vitamin-y aftertaste and be somewhat bitter, I didn’t notice it with these. There was a lingering aftertaste but to me it wasn’t unpleasant.
Really the only difference I saw — and unfortunately I don’t have a regular bar on hand to tell for sure — is that the crispy peanut butter inside of the Buzz seems to be a bit of a darker orange than the original. Butterfingers always seem to be a bit battered right out of the package, so that didn’t bother me, though these looked like they’d been through a cement mixer.
The chocolate tastes the same, melting on my fingers before I finished and not impressive overall (though let’s face it, Butterfinger is probably one of the few candy bars I don’t buy for the chocolate), and the “crispety, crunchety” peanut butter inside was perfect, getting stuck in my teeth just like always.
Now what sets the Buzz apart is that it’s supposedly loaded with as much caffeine as “the leading energy drink,” which I take to mean a Red Bull or Monster or whatever. Each individual bar contains 40 mg of caffeine and, as the package says, is “not recommended for pregnant women, children or persons sensitive to caffeine.” I’ve never had an energy drink so I can’t compare and I really didn’t notice an energy boost. If I ate both bars I probably would have, but I can’t down two candy bars in one sitting so I have yet to see!
Overall, a good candy bar but I’m going to have to take Nestle’s word about the energy boost.

Nestle’s new Butterfinger Buzz?? That candy is older than I am and I am 50. New….well for some.
Rogers, the Buzz by Butterfinger is new, not Butterfinger itself.
I am a mom of 3 young children and all this talk of SALMONELLA in peanuts has me taking drastic action on the kind of candy treats that I will now buy. It is horrifying to know that the company that supplied peanuts to so many other companies that used their peanuts in their products, knew that the peanuts were contaminated with SALMONELLA and one employee of their company said that sanitary conditions were so bad that he seen rats get cooked in the dry roaster with the peanuts!!! It shows me that companies no longer put the public’s safety as priority, it is now all about the almighty dollar! For this reason and my Children’s safety, I will no longer buy brands like SNICKERS, M & M Peanuts or any brands containing peanuts. I can no longer trust the safety of peanut products, it is so very sad that the world is in the state that it is.
I’m a Butterfinger lover too but I don’t need any more caffeine in my diet. So I guess I’ll pass on these.
Butterfinger – if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it!
I thought it tasted the same for the first bite or so too, although it did have an unusually red filling, but after eating just one of the bars, the bitter aftertaste of way too much caffeine kicked in and I didn’t even want to start into the other bar. Have you ever wondered why redbull and other energy drinks are so sour and have so much sugar? it’s to hide the bitterness of the extra caffeine. (and I’m 23, no stranger to caffeine, but this is one buzz i don’t recomend)
my friend shared one of these w/ me this morning and i was WIREDDD by the time i got to second period history. then i crashed miserably. still in history. oh it was bad. but awesome at the same time.
I’ve only been able to find these at one gas station in my area, and Butterfinger has made them promotional. I have already eaten 2 or 3 of them and although the inner crispety-crunch is darker, the flavor and everything is the same, outstanding. I have not noticed a weird, caffeinated, bitter after-taste and I recommend this candy bar to anyone who enjoys Butterfinger and wants a little kick. Good Job Nestle!!
I like the original better Butterfinger better. I could’nt even finish the rest of the bar due to a bitter after taste. Whats up with the hard rock center? You could “homie the clown” someone if you put it in a sock!! =P
Homey the Clown! I haven’t thought about that in years
“Homey don’t play that!”
So I bought one of these, discontinued at my supermarket and almost died when I saw the inside was darker than an original. Thanks to your review I know that that is normal lol though if you hear of someone croaking off these then its me and I’m holding your review personally responsible in my afterlife.
Thanks again
LOL! Hi Justin! I also checked around online a bit to make sure the darker color was normal, even though mine came from the manufacturer! Have you tried it yet? What did you think?
