Celebrating National S’mores Day

S’mores are as much a part of summer as mosquitoes and air conditioning. Whether you made them the “old fashioned” way by roasting the marshmallows over a campfire or by using a microwave, one thing’s for sure, nothing’s more satisfying than the timeless graham cracker, marshmallow and chocolate treat!

S’mores apparently date back to around the 1920’s, and though no one knows for sure who actually put together the first graham crackers together with gooey marshmallows and chocolate, rumor has it the Girl Scouts may have been the first. The name, of course, comes from a popular sentiment from around …read more

Micro S’mores

Micro S’mores

Following my post last week about the lengths my kids and I went to for a s’mores fix, a very kind rep sent me and the girls two Micro S’mores units to try out, just in time for National S’mores Day on August 10th!

The Micro S’mores pretty much serves one purpose: to keep the s’mores components together during a round in the microwave, and it accomplishes this task perfectly.
Made of (dishwasher safe!) plastic, the lightweight unit is impact resistent and even has a little “handle” on the base which makes it easier to pick up off the counter or …read more

Quick S’mores

My daughters were craving some s’mores the other day but not having a fire pit or any other way to roast marshmallows we decided we’d do it carefully over the gas stove top.

The only problem was that we had no large marshmallows, just the little mini ones left over from when I last made fudge. Those obviously wouldn’t work so well over any kind of flame, so the girls helped me brainstorm.
We decided to use graham crackers as usual, and on one half we put nine or so mini marshmallows. We then put that into the microwave for about ten …read more

Video: Chocolate Holiday Treats and Cookies

Youtube user “MyHappySock” has created a video about the chocolate treats he makes for the holidays. These fun treats couldn’t be any easier and he includes all the steps for everything from a chocolate-covered s’more to chocolate-covered Oreos and even an idea for using up the extra dipping chocolate.
I think this year I might try the chocolate-dipped Oreos and pretzels for my goodie bags. Yum!

Chocolate Fondue S’mores

I seem to be on a s’mores kick lately. Maybe it’s the time of year, what with camping and cooler nights, etc.
Anyway, the above video shows how to make chocolate fondue s’mores with milk chocolate, marshmallow cream, and graham cracker crumbs. Yum!

What Can You Do With S’mores?

Everyone know how to make s’mores – roast a marshmallow, slap it on a graham cracker with a bit of chocolate and smoosh another graham cracker on top.
However, the variations are really pretty endless and can be tailored to fit anyone’s tastes. You can try:

S’mores bars
Ditch the graham crackers altogether
Turn it into a cake
Add bananas, raspberries, or even cherries
S’mores cheesecake!
Minty s’mores
Use Peeps!
Make the whole thing from scratch

And check this out – Mexican s’mores!

Monday Afternoon Chocolate Fix

Perfectly acceptable use of leftover ganache, am I right?
We went camping over the weekend and I didn’t think to take pictures of the s’mores we made. We did have a lot of leftover graham crackers, though (can’t imagine why there was no leftover chocolate bars), which tasted fantastic with leftover ganache.
The ganache has been in the fridge so it’s about the consistency of frosting. Perfect!
