The always-generous folks at YellowIbis.com have once again offered up one of their extremely cute pink theobromine t-shirts!
The T-shirt features the structure of theobromine, the main methylxanthine alkaloid present in cacao beans. Perfect for your favorite chocolate lover! Durable brown flex-print design on a heather jersey T. I have two of these that I wear regularly and I can attest that they are quality tops!
YellowIbis is also currently participating in the DonorsChoose campaign, a special drive to raise funds for science classroom education and experiments in underfunded schools.

I’ve wanted to do a contest here for a little while but had a hard time coming up with prize ideas since actually sending chocolate right now isn’t much of an option (still way too hot). So when I did my post the other day about the theobromine molecule t-shirts a lightbulb went off and I had my prize!

You now have the chance to be the owner of a Theobromine Molecule T-shirt! There are two ways to enter, please read carefully:

Get two submissions to win: Leave a comment here with a link to the most obscure and/or bizarre chocolate item you can find online. Link to this contest from your own site or weblog and include the URL to the entry with your submission and you now have two chances to win!

OR

Get one submission to win: If you can’t find something obscure or bizarre then just link to this contest from your own site or weblog and comment here with a link to your entry; this is good for one chance to win! (I need to be able to see it though, so make sure it’s not a locked or friends-only entry.)

That’s it! If it’s something you actually own then take a picture of it, upload it to a site like Flickr and leave the URL in the comments of this entry. Make sure you leave a valid email address with your submission (it will not be displayed on the site and will not be used for anything else), and a URL if you have one so I can feature everyone at the end of the contest.

The contest will run until August 31 at 11:59pm Pacific. A name will then be drawn from the eligible submissions on September 1 using the super technical method of pieces of paper in a hat, and the winner will be notified by email and announced here on the site. The winner will then need to send me their mailing address to have the t-shirt sent to, so if you’re not comfortable with that then please don’t enter (though it will never be used for anything else).

This is open to residents of the continental U.S. and Canada only.

If you’re in the US: You can choose between the ThinkGeek style (Women’s style, pink on brown) or the Moleculewear styles (regular or girlie style, green on black).

If you’re in Canada: Your shirt will be coming from Moleculewear because they have excellent shipping rates. You can pick the regular or the girlie style, and the colors are green on black.

Disclaimers
- If you win you’ll need to provide my with the t-shirt size you’d like. You don’t get a choice on which molecule you’d like, though – this is a chocolate site, you’re stuck with chocolate!

- If you pick the wrong size and wish to exchange it the responsibility is yours: I will not pay for shipping back to the store and then back again to you.

- You are responsible for any applicable taxes.

- I am not responsible for printing mess-ups, shipment re-scheduling, or laundry mishaps.

Good luck!!

Years ago I bought a caffeine molecule t-shirt from ThinkGeek.com and just thought it was the cleverest thing ever (I didn’t get out much then). This past weekend I came across my next molecule t-shirt, theobromine. It looks like they only have them in a women’s style (I can’t imagine why that would be).
ThinkGeek’s description says:
“Caffeine is our favorite stimulant. It is easy to get and comes in many forms. But did you know that Caffeine has a sexy younger cousin.

Her name is Theobromine, and she’s the tasty little number who puts your mind in a happy place while you are eating chocolate. Molecularly similar to caffeine, but with just enough differences to make her a much smoother date, Theobromine is slower to burn out of your system and induces gentle, sensual stimulation to your muscular and cardiovascular systems. Grrrrrrrr!”

I also found one at moleculewear.com though their prices are a tiny bit higher for the women’s styles.

The descriptions at moleculewear.com says:

“Theobromine is the active ingredient in chocolate and acts as a stimulant.

“Theobromine affects humans similarly to caffeine, but on a much smaller scale. It is a mild stimulant, and relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi in the lungs. It’s also an anti-depressant and makes us feel good. After finishing the chocolate molecule the Digital Militia staff began licking fingers, and each other.

“This shirt is for people who have discovered that dessert is more important than the ramifications of obesity, tooth decay, and diabetes.”

This is the first year in over a decade our family has not had a dog at Christmas time. And I thought of that as my kids were leaving out some chocolates and other goodies for Santa at bedtime. Other years we’ve had to put the plate of treats up high out of reach of our pets.

This is the first year in over a decade our family has not had a dog at Christmas time. And I thought of that as my kids were leaving out some chocolates and other goodies for Santa at bedtime. Other years we’ve had to put the plate of treats up high out of reach of our pets.

While no human goodies are good for pets, chocolate is especially harmful, and can be fatal. Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine which is toxic to both dogs and cats. You don’t hear much about cats eating chocolate because, well, they’re finicky. Dogs will eat almost anything so all chocolate should be kept out of their reach.

Different types of chocolate contain different amounts of theobromine, and smaller animals will react to a smaller amount than larger animals. Dogs who have eaten chocolate may have diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, or an irregular heartbeat, and need to be taken to a vet.

While our much-loved pooch passed away last spring, please take care of your dogs and cats this holiday season by eating all the chocolate yourself.
