Gordon Ramsay’s new cookware line

For anyone who’s made it through an episode of Hell’s Kitchen (I have to admit I’ve only watched it once…it’s just too stressful for me!), you won’t be surprised by the tagline of Gordon Ramsay’s new cookware: “Kitchenware you can swear by”. Smile.
Ramsay, it seems, is in brand expansion mode. Besides his hit TV show which has now made it to America, he also has opened pubs in London and is developing a new Gordon Ramsay computer game. Oh, and of course cookbooks! I love his cookbooks, and it’s much better for me to read them than to try to watch (listen to) him on the tube.
The range [sold in Argos] includes a sandwich griddle for £89.99, a milk frother for £49.99 and a smoothie and soup blender for £99.99. A kettle and toaster are also part of the range, which insiders believe could ultimately achieve sales of close to £100 million a year….The gadgets are mostly made from brushed stainless steel and are priced at the top end of the kitchen gadget market, costing more than rival ranges by Antony Worrall Thompson and Ainsley Harriott.

I never would purchase an appliance/gadget based on a “name”,
outside of Rachel Ray or Martha Stewart of which I would NEVER, EVER
purchase anything with their names on it. Rachel because she is annoying, Martha because every one I know that know her calls her “a useless piece of protoplasm” or words to that effect. My favorite classless story of Martha was when she “invited” her production staff from NY to Conn. for a lunch to discuss her show. By the time they got back to NY she had faxed a bill to the office for her “invite”. Or my father’s story which is unprintable directly related to her.
I wouldn’t buy anything based upon a celebrity endorsement either, Jon, even a celebrity chef. Maybe especially a celebrity chef. Have you seen Gordon Ramsay’s show, Hell’s Kitchen? It’s a total nightmare, but that’s why I find the tagline for his new products so funny!
