Manual or electric tools?

Jennifer Derrick wrote an article a bit ago for a site called SavingAdvice.  In it she extolled the pleasures of Doing Things Manually.  Jennifer is a recovering power tool junky who came to see the light about the joy of using hand tools.

Don’t get me wrong…we love electric tools around here.  Even some battery operated ones.  But my true joy is hand tools.  Can’t help it, I think it’s genetic.

Jennifer lists 10 different power gadgets that she has given up on, and I’m excited to say that all three of the kitchen tools she lists, I already use the hand version!

Can opener: never had an electric one.  Still using my original hand crank.

Whisk: no stand mixer in my house.  Ok, I did buy a wand style blender last year.

Ice cube maker: they’ve always been called ice trays as far as I know.

Are there tools that aren’t listed here that you’ve made the decision to stick with the low-tech or manual version?  I’d love to know!
