Location: The famous Hollywood sign in the Hollywood Hills became a part of the Los Angeles landscape when it was erected in 1923. It was named a historical monument in 1973.

Been there done that. A grea tview from Griffith Observatory, but it isn’t open just yet. Next year at this time would be good.
Hello Mike, thanks for reminding me that Griffith Observatory is a great viewing place.
It has reopened, though — and I hear it’s better than ever. No need to wait till next year.
Griffith Obs. is open, but you have to take a shuttle to get there. You can’t drive up – YET! that is why I said next year!

The original HOLLYWOOD sign was erected to promote a new housing development and the sign read HOLLYWOOODLAND”.
Did you know the Hollywood sign used to say Hollywoodland, to promote a new residential subdivision? Now the city of LA is trying to buy the peak on which it sits to preserve it from– real estate developers!
