California Cuisine: Insects?

I’m a big believer in sampling new food when you travel.
I can’t imagine being in New Orleans without eating some great Creole or Cajun food. Or being in Texas without having barbecue. Or missing out on barbecue in Texas or lobster in Maine. Regional cuisine gives us a little sample of local culture.
But insects? In Pismo Beach, California? I’m not so sure. . . .
Could you go this far in adventurous dining?

A buddy recently met a chef from one of the local DC mexican restaurants and was able to talk him out of a signiture recipe…that included ants. He made the dish one evening for a bunch of us, complete with ants that he got from the chef….Yum!!!!
Ummmm, okay. You’re way more adventurous about food than I am!
I’m pretty sure that I would pass. No, I know for a fact that I would. I have enough trouble with sea food so you can see where I’m going with this.
I don’t think I would want to eat cockroaches, but I did try a pizza once “sprinkled with crispy ants”! It was at a French friend’s apartment, but it’s not a French recipe mind you, nor an Italian one for that matter, but it was rather good!
