Chicago: Tutankhamun & the Golden Age of the Pharoahs

Today I am in Chicago, where it is pouring down rain.
Because of the downpour last night, plans ended with dinner, and an early night in. I laid in bed and watched a magnificent thunder and lightning storm play out across the sky. Unfortunately, today’s weather is only slightly better — still raining — and I just can’t get motivated to go out to explore the city. Although I’m usually game for anything, today just doesn’t seem to be one of those days.
What I wanted to do, however, and what I must make plans to do on my next visit, is to see the exhibit Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs at Chicago’s Field Museum.
This traveling exhibition is twice the size of the 1977 exhibition, and features many pieces that have never before traveled outside of Egypt. The 18th Dynasty, the reign of the boy-king, is thought to be an era producing the most spectacular works of art.
Admission to the Tutankhamun exhibit requires a timed-entry ticket that is purchased in addition to the General Admission charge of the Museum. They can be purchased in advance online. There are VIP tickets, hotel/museum packages and group tours also available. Day of entry tickets may be available, if not sold out, but will be in limited supply at the museum on a first-come basis.
The Field Museum is located at 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The exhibit runs through January 1, 2007, and then goes to Philadelphia, followed by London.
