upper-crust-psp.JPGIt’s always good when it’s about the shopping, even better when it’s about the food.  And when you can combine those interests together, you just know good things have to happen.

That’s what you can do on a visit to the Upper Crust Cooking Company in Palm Desert, California.

I first tried the Upper Crust’s products when best pal, Anita (in photo above), brought some cheese home on returning from a trip to the desert.  It was a soft, spreadable cheese, with the distinctive taste of horseradish.

I’ll be the first to acknowledge that I am not a fan of horseradish; yet, the blend of flavors in this cheese spread was too yummy to decline.  It does have a fairly strong flavor, so I’d recommend serving it simply, probably just with crackers.  I prefer a rice cracker, as the subtlety of the cracker enhances the cheese.

The Upper Crust is known for its signature gourmet cheese spreads, and it turns out that I’m not the only one who’s hooked on the horseradish spread.  It’s been their number one seller for over 15 years.  They have other flavors (Blue Cheese, Swiss Almond, Port Wine, Garlic & Herb), but I never seem to remember that I’m going to try something new.  I just keep coming back to my favorite.

Upper Crust does not have a website, although hopefully that will change soon.  In the meantime, you can call the store to place your order, and they will ship anywhere in the U.S.  Of course, then you’d miss visiting the store and taking advantage of the tidbits at the sample bar.

The Upper Crust Cooking Company is located at 73-540 El Paseo, Suite D, in Palm Desert.
