Poll: How do you Choose a Flight?

There are a number of ways to select the flight that you’ll take, from a price point to convenience. Usually it’s some combination of a number of factors.
Ring in on your booking criteria with the August poll:
What is your most important consideration when booking a flight?
- Price – I only book the lowest fare
- Price – within a range, but doesn’t have to be the lowest
- Scheduled departure
- Scheduled arrival
- Non-stop flight, no connections
- Only one stop or one connection
- Airline – I’m loyal to my favorite(s)
- Any airline other than the one(s) I hate
- Other – please explain in the comments
Make your selection in the side bar at the right, just below the “About Flyaway Cafe” box. Feel free to explain your choice in the comments below.

It’s got to be a decent compromise of the air fare and itinerary. Bargains are great, but when the flight takes off at 4 am, it’s just not worth it anymore.
Safety is my main concern: safety record, age of fleet… I also prize communications. When things go wrong, I want crew to tell me what’s happening. I remember a flight recently when we almost touched down but aborted the landing and roared back up into the sky. We circled the airport and slowly came in again. And still the pilot hadn’t told us what the matter was. That’s not acceptable.
I also care hugely about service. I’ll put up with a lot if it’s dished out with savoir-faire and a smile.
If the price is right, I’ll look into other factors like departure/arrival times as well as connections. I’m more apt to leave at a crazy hour if it means none or only one connection!
I am a frequent flier fiend so i choose the least expensive flights that earn miles in the Oneworld Alliance.
I always prefer to take a non-stop because there are less chances for something to go wrong, but I also take into account arrival time as well.
Those two practical considerations need to balance with the price of the ticket. I won’t make multiple stops just to save a few dollars.
