With Respect – Air France Flight #447

There are no words to convey the deep sadness and sense of grief that sweeps of the Flight Attendant community when news hits us that we have lost compatriots.  When I reported for work this morning, the news was all abuzz that a plane had disappeared, Air France Flight #447 flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

Disappeared?  Airplanes just don’t disappear!  But apparently this one did.  And it will be days, weeks, and months, before experts sort through what happened and have answers for us.

Air France Flight 447

No matter the airline, the aircraft, or the nationalities involved, those men and women who do this job have a bond that unites them.  We do the same job, we share the same experiences, we laugh over the same silly things that happen on the airplane, and we complain over the same type of passengers.

Today, we all stand in respect and honor the Flight Attendants of Air France.  We, too, grieve for the crew members of Air France Flight #447, for all the passengers, family, friends, and loved one left behind.

It’s a tough day to be out flying, but on tough days I’m prouder than ever to be a Flight Attendant.

Thank you for writing this post. All the people on this flight have been on my mind since the moment I heard the tragic news. It is because of Flight Attendants like you, that every flight I take, I am thankful to be surrounded by such kind, friendly, and efficient people. Thank you.

Hi Melissa, and thanks for the comment.

It’s always hard to write after something horrible like this happens. It takes awhile for shock and numbness to wear off, and it always helps to talk with other Flight Attendants. Thank you for appreciating what we do.

Thank you for your kind words. I recently retired from Northwest Airlines. We are all from the same family. No matter which airline. I have been stunned since hearing about flight 447. God be with us all.

    • Mary Jo Manzanares says:

Hi Michelle — Thanks for the comment.

You know exactly how I feel, and how it takes awhile to wrap our head around this. Planes are supposed to just disappear, and it feels like that’s exactly what happened here.

We all pull together at times like this, and it really helps to be around and talk with other Flight Attendants. We can talk and relate to the tragedy, and to one another, in a way that is hard for others to understand.

I hope you are enjoying retirement!

THE MYSTERY OF AIR FRANCE FLIGHT 447 IS THIS:

The heir of the Brazilian Throne, Prince Pedro Luis de Orleans e Braganca, was the target within Air France Flight 447.

    • Mary Jo Manzanares says:

It’s my understanding that he was fourth in line to the now extinct Brazilian throne. While possible, it seems a stretch that he would be the target in this manner.

It’s still too early for us to know what happen (that will take a LONG time), but all indications are currently pointing to something weather related. Time will tell.

  5. Terrell Lamoreaux says:

I too am a retired flight attendant and this loss of Air France has hit me deeper than any of the others. Are we going to get to the truth of what happened?. i would like to see this not fade away without some answers. I would like to see the faces and names of those brave flight attendants who lost their lives. I am also a grandfather 8 times, every life and loss has become precious to me .
