Genetics Podcasts: The Scientist & The Ethicists

The Women’s Bioethics Project (WBP) has a wonderful series of podcasts called The Scientist & the Ethicists led by Dr. Emilie Clemmens, a WBP Research Fellow and bioengineer. In conversations with prominent bioethicists, Dr. Clemmens discusses the following questions:

  • How are emerging genetic and reproductive technologies influencing our lives today? How will they change our lives in the future?
  • Why are women’s perspectives important on these issues?
  • Is it ethical for parents to choose an embryo based on its genetic traits?
  • Is it ethical to change an embryo’s genes, given that it would affect future generations? What if it’s for a medical purpose? What if it’s for “enhancement,” non-medical reasons?

There are already six podcasts available. Darn! I wish I had an iPod so I could download them and listen on my daily walks.

PS Also check out the Women’s Bioethics Project Book Club featuring books that relate to biotechnology.
