For those of us who thought that bamboo was a ‘GREEN’ fiber, we need to think again…. sadly!
Read this article by Victoria Everman about the dark side of bamboo fiber….

Thanks for mentioning my article about bamboo, Noreen. I hope the process of making bamboo fabrics and fiber will be greener in the near future; it really is nifty to work with.
That’s very interesting. I’ve always thought bamboo was a greener choice. Now I’ll pay more attention to the label, and certifications.
Yikes! That’s scary - unfortunately, it seems like every kind of fabric has some kind of environmental issue with it
Hi Victoria
I was actually quite sad to hear the bad news about bamboo fiber. I hope that people will start working to make it more planetfriendly.
Here’s hoping that hemp fabric truly is eco friendly!
Hi Linette
Do you have any idea if bamboo flooring is truly as ‘green’ an option as has been promoted? I REALLY really hope so!
Hi Chloe
Yep… the chemicals they dowse the fabrics with are really toxic! ALWAYS essential to wash that sizing out as soon as it gets into the house!
From what I understand, bamboo as a fabric or yarn has to go through more toxic processing than bamboo as lumber does. So bamboo flooring is probably nowhere near as bad as the yarn/fabric.
I wonder if processing hemp into fabric/yarn is like linen, or better.
Hi Vashti
I REALLY wanted, longed for and hoped that bamboo would be ‘the answer’!
I am so glad to learn that the flooring is better environmentally than the fabric and yarn.
From what I have read, hemp is supposed to be a very good choice. I sure hope so!
:o) Thanks, Vashti!
