Binding a book the old fashioned way

A couple of months ago, my book binding machine finally packed it in.
I had kept it going for ages, long after it had well and truly bitten the dust.
It did noble service, and it has gone into the great recycling system, so is hopefully on it’s way to becoming something else.

Instead of being sensible and buying another binding machine….
ahem…..
I indulged myself in a moment of, well, indulgence!
And,
I succumbed to the temptations of this spinning wheel
that was being sold at a garage sale.
(I paid too much for it, but that’s okay,
because I really do like it very much
and have been able to fix the broken bits)
(And my husband is going to turn me a 3rd bobbin, bless him!)
Anyhow…….I have noodled along, not missing the binding machine, until today.
Ooops…
I got an order for a copy of Ninny Nonnies
When I went to my shelves, expecting to pull a bound copy of it off the shelf,
I patted the shelf and then peered at the shelf,
and then went
oh oh….. no bound copies of Ninny Nonnies… oh oh….
Time for a little creativity…. so I put together a copy of the book, and clamped it with 3 clamps and drilled 3 holes:

Then, I threaded a cord through the center hole, and took one end down through the top hole and the other end up through the lower hole:

Then, bring the cord at the back , up through the center hole.

Tie a knot with both ends, and put a bead on each end. Voila! the book is bound! Yay!

I never loved the binding machine. (I love the funky old spinning wheel, though… it spins like a dream
)
Luckily, I love binding books like this, so I think I’ll stick with my drill and cords!
