There are certain books that are meant to be treasured and passed down through families.

One of these is certainly the ‘Learn How Book: C is for Crochet, K is for Knitting, T is for Tatting, E is for Embroidery’ book.

I found my copy in a second hand store about 10 years ago and paid all of 25 cents for it.

I love this old book (my copy is a whole lot older than I am) and would not part with it.

Um, that being said,  some of the patterns in my version (the 1941 edition) are  truly hideous.

Others are classics in simple shaping and basic garment construction.

But, when they went  wrong, boy, did they go wrong in a big way. One of the captions proudly proclaims: “I made it myself”.

The only response can be: ‘There, there, you’ll do better next time….’

Many of  the captions are quite bizarre, and a fair few of the patterns are awful,

BUT!

The techniques are really well explained and the technical information is excellent.

And, I just find it all quite simply charming.

I checked to see if you can still find this book on eBay for a reasonable price, and yes, you can.

It’s 50 pages of sweetness and really does have lots of useful information, so if you can lay your hands on a copy of  it, do.

It’s one of those treasures that deserve a place on our book shelves.
