Broken tatting shuttle recycled into necklace-2

Yesterday, I posted about
making a tatting shuttle that broke.
And, so I recycled it and made it into a necklace:
And, now, I am debating about the cord for the necklace.
I know I am going to use Lion Brand Lamé in the oilslick version, but I am waffling about how I am going to make it.
I know that the Cordelia cordmaker on the left, works soooooooooooo beautifully for making square cords.
But…. since the necklace began it’s life as a tatting shuttle, it would make sense to tat the cord….
So, that’s what I have done!

Look around for a chain you already have then hang the pendent on that. When you have more time you can tat a cord if you want to.
I like Karen’s suggestion, if you’re time pressed. I was going to say (before I read Karen’s good thought) that since she began as a tatting shuttle, it is very appropriate that the cord be tatted. Sometimes we blow through life too fast and forget to listen to the birds and smell the flowers. Take the time to make her permanent cord a tatted cord. You know you won’t be truly satisfied with anything else.

With the thicker cord, it shouldn’t take too long to tat a cord. Just make a very large ring with some picots (maybe beaded picots?) so when you close the ring you have a cord to go over your head. The shuttle could be on a central picot. A few stitches here and there will add up quickly. It took some time to make the shuttle but you did it.
I think it would look smashing on a chain that matches the color of the jump ring you used to make it a pendant.
I like the idea of the tatting (and the beads) when people who do tatting see it they will know rightway what it is and the tatted chain will just set it of perfect, you have put so much work in to it already and finding a super cute way to recycle an accident take it all the way!!!!

Looks to me like a male ballet dancer doing a pas du chat.
(I’m not sure I spelled that right. It’s been many years since French class – or ballet class for that matter

Mmmmm…. that’s one option, but, since tatting is so portable, I’ve been able to take my shuttle with me and do some experimenting…. will post about them…

That is definitely one of the lovely things about tatting! It is so contemplative and meditative!
I agree that tatting the cord is the right way to go…. keeping it all in harmony….
Because we had to go into the city today, I had a lot of time in the passenger’s seat, and I tatted merrily away the whole time. I’ll have to post pics…

It was because of a reader’s comment that I was inspired to rescue the broken tatting shuttle and re-claim and ‘re-purpose’ it. I love how one thing lead to another!

I had my tatting with me while we were out running errands and keeping appointments all day, and I was experimenting with the cord…..
I’ll post pics of what I’ve done so far, which is not what I want for the final piece… LOL! But at least now, I know what I want to do…. although, of course, other things could easily unfold!

Oooh…. that would be really nice…. I had some copper colored thread somewhere, but don’t know where it’s gone.
The Lame’ thread shimmers really beautifully, so it sets the wood and the bead off well.
But, I’ll have to rummage around and see if I can find the copper thread….

I agree! I really like the idea of the cord being tatted. This is so neat, because I love exploring new ideas. I hadn’t thought of doing this before….
I’ve tatted lots of necklaces, but never a simple cord….
And, yes, I am going to take people’s suggestions of including beads!

Yes! I see it as being very ‘dancer-ly’.
The ‘pas du chat’ is an upward leap with the knees apart and feet almost clicking, right? (It’s been a long time for me, too! LOL!)
I have had so much fun with this, and it’s been so delightfully ‘out of the blue’! LOL!

I just love the idea of this & must admit I like the tatted cord idea, too. But still string it on something so you can wear it until you can finish the cord, as someone above suggested. Great idea.

I toted my tatting shuttle with me over the weekend, so I was able to get the tatted cord (and a couple of friendship bracelets, too).
