We’ve been wondering what to make for our nephew and his sweetiepie. We were baffled. They live in a tiny apartment and don’t like clutter. We were mulling and mulling, and got slightly put off by an earnest psychologist on telly who said some neat stuff about gift giving but also contributed to our ’stuck-ed-ness’.
So, we decided to just have fun. I decided to give a gift from my ‘inner little girl’ to nephew’s Beloved’s ‘inner little girl’.
Well, my ‘inner little girl’ loves dolls. LOves, loVes, lovEs, loveS dolls. Well, not all dolls…. I find lots of dolls that are being made these days to be heartless, souless, creepy, and generally icky. And for heaven’s sake, don’t get me started on the ones that I deem to be pornographic! eegads. But,
other than that, I ~love~ dolls. (well, lots of dolls….)
(and, I’d lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvve to find a Blythe doll that I could actually afford! )
Wait a minute, I just took off sideways there…..
Anyhow, I decided that I was going to make my neice in law a dolly from my little girl to her little girl. So, I made her a frou frou little doll.
Oh…….. ~rolling the ‘r’s frou frou~ !
I had S O M U C H fun!
I cut out the body from wood, and spool knitted her arms and legs and made her little sandals and a teeny necklace and earrings and then gave the most insanely pink lace tutu skirt……
Did I mention that I had fun making this doll?
And, the best part was, that Jim got all inspired, and decided his inner little boy needed to make nephew’s inner little boy a wooden car. So, off he went to the workshop, and came back and oh crumbs…….. camnesia! I forgot to take a picture of the kewl little car! ack!
A little while later, we were tearing around the studio, getting a slew of things done before Jim had to race out. We were trying to get nephew and neice’s package all wrapped up to get it (belatedly) in the mail…….
when
I asked Jim- Where’s the Christmas dolly that I just made?
Gone!
Vanished.
Ahem…….
It looked like Bambi meets Godzilla…. this poor little leg sticking out…..
Kitty wasn’t actually on top of the doll. She had wrapped herself resoundingly around the doll.
I’m not the only one who likes dolls……
Hope our neice in law’s ‘inner little girl’ will have fun with her new doll….. maybe if she’s lucky, our nephew’s ‘inner little boy’ will give her dolly a ride on his new car……
Forget about “the rules” of Christmas gifts. Just find joy, and enjoy!

That is the MOST perfect doll! And I can totally understand why Kitty wanted to curl up with her. She has the most wonderful spirit about her.
