Hankering for Yarn

Contest-Win a Gratitude Doll

November 18, 2007 by Noreen Crone-Findlay
Filed under contest, crochet

NOTE: This contest has ended. Thank you everyone who entered.

Who won?   The Winner

I am feeling profound gratitude.

A friend died last week, and that has made me sad, and yet also, very very grateful. When someone you care about moves into another chapter of their journey, it makes you think about all the blessings in your own life.

So, I have decided to celebrate the joy of friendship and to have a contest about gratitude. Also, ‘Thanksgiving 2′ is about to unfold (’2′? Yes, I am in Canada, and we already had our Thanksgiving in October, so this one coming up is ‘2′), so it’s a time to pause and feel grateful and say ‘thank you’.….

The prize?

gratitude-doll-qs.jpg

This one of a kind art doll that I made for my book,

Creative Crocheted Dolls.

Thank you, thank you ….Like Meister Eickhart said: If the only prayer you ever learn to say is

‘thank you’

it is enough…..

.thank you.

hugs all round,

Noreen

  1. I am grateful to be alive and to be able to enjoy my family. I am grateful to have a creative nature and a giving nature. I am grateful for my friends.
    hugs Karen

  2. Kate says:

I am grateful for my niece and nephew. I don’t get to see them very often, but I love them more every time I think of them.

  3. Stefania says:

If you say ‘thanks’ to the Universe, your life will be full of love and gratitude, thank you, Stef

  4. Trisha says:

I am grateful for all the challenges I have had this fall: My daughter left her husband and moved home with her 1-year old…having to clean out a room for them and dealing with all the “stuff” that needs to go…a new boss who wants to change things. I started to thank God for these difficulties, and WOW! My daughter and grandson are such a blessing, my house is clutter-free and I don’t miss the “stuff” at all, and I am settling in with my boss with all the changes. It is all good.

  5. Marianne says:

I am very thankful for being able to go to Mass today – to live in a country where the religious of any belief system or the total nonbelievers can live in freedom. I am also thankful for spoolknitting, my kittyboys and Noreen, who is a joy and the mother of Tottie Tomato! I urge anyone to enter this contest as I am the proud mamma of a doll I won in the first contest!

  6. Jennifer Isham says:

I am very grateful for the relationship I have with my children and the relationships that have been healed across multiple generations. They are special children (as are all children) who have shown me there is a greater plan in mind for all of us, if only we open ourselves to the possibilities.

  7. Judy says:

I am grateful for my husband who has been by my side as I have recovered from recent surgery. He has never cooked, yet he cooks for me, he washes me, he encourages me and he coaches me through physical therapy. After 24 years I still adore this wonderful man and am so very grateful to see he still adores me as well. I am truely blessed!

  8. Grace says:

I’m grateful for my good health and the good health of my loved ones.

  9. Bethany says:

I wish to share my thankfulness of my wonderful loving family…they are so full of helpful encouragement and laughs and love. They are my reason for everything!
I also wish to share my gratitude for Noreen and her whimsical family of tomatoes and pine. I was blessed enough to be the winner of her most recent contest, and am loving my little Tottie-Doll!

  10. connie says:

I am so blessed! Compared to many of my friends and relatives …knock on wood!…my life is filled with love, joy, and good mental health. I had a blissful childhood and have a wonderful family.
    connie

  11. wendy says:

I am eternally grateful that my mother survived a mild heart attack and is doing well. I am for the love of the best man in the world, my husband. I am grateful for the love and support of our family and friends, and for our four legged friends.
I too have to share my gratitude for Noreen; her talent and creativity are a constant source of inspiration for all who come in contact with her. I adore my Noreena doll, which I won in her second contest.

  12. Kesam Katz says:

I am grateful for all the people who have chosen to share their lives with me–I never take their love and friendship for granted, but feel it is a grace for which I am daily grateful. Kesam

  13. Kesam Katz says:

I am grateful for my animal family,(3 cats and a dog) they give unconditional love and make me laugh on a daily basis.Kesam

  14. Tammy says:

I’m thankful for so many things I don’t know where to begin! Family, of course. The ability to learn new skills and encouraging friends who taught me mistakes are OK.

I’ll come up with more, but thank you, Noreen, for your wonderful ideas and sharing your life with us. I feel richly blessed for the experience.

    Tammy

  15. Sandy says:

I am very thankful for the unending love and support of my family, the generous guidance of creative friends, and a slice of free time to enjoy them all.

  16. wendy says:

I am grateful that the era I live in has penicillin, insulin, chemotherapy, dialysis, doctors who know about sterilization (and wash their hands before operating) and flush toilets. I am grateful that my extended family has several breast cancer survivors. I am grateful that most cancers can be diagnosed early enough to be successfully treated. I look forward to the day when all cancers can be diagnosed and treated in the same way diabetes can be treated. And, like the ad for St. Jude’s Children Hospital, I am eternally grateful for all the healthy children in my life.
    Wendy

  17. WendyP says:

I am thankful that I was able to come for a visit to the USA early this year (I live in NZ). We had to sell our house and are now renting to be able to do it – but I got to meet several email friends and that was priceless !!!!

  18. Grace says:

I am grateful I didn’t have to go anywhere near a store or shopping mall on ‘black Friday’.

  19. Robin says:

I am grateful to be alive and healthy, to be able to spend time withthe people I love and have them gather in my home to give thanks. I am grateful that for the most part these people are healthy. Yes, there’s some illnesses around, but still all of us are alive and kicking.
I am grateful to be able to write an article for my grandmother’s 100th birthday and have the local newspaper in Virginia publish it. I am grateful that I have the means and the time to be able to celebrate this occasion with her.
I am grateful for all that I have received (even the stuff I wish I hadn’t) and all the stuff I didn’t receive (even though I wish I had). All the gains and losses have taught me many things I would not have learned otherwise.
I’m just grateful to have a chance to hang around.

  20. wendy penner says:

I am grateful for men like Billy Bishop and Eddie Rickenbacker. For my father and father-in-law who both fought in WWII and for my cousin who was in both Gulf Wars. For all the men (and women) who have laid their lives on the line and made the greatest sacrifice of all, so that we can enjoy our lives today.

  21. Maven says:

I am thankful that with age I have noticed I have been receiving patience. Sometimes it’s in dribs and drabs. But thankful for the drabs as well as the dribs, as with that patience has come my ability to start to read crochet patterns. I’m thankful for two hands that work, a sharp keen mind, and eyes that haven’t failed me, so that when life gets to be “too much,” I can just suspend reality and get lost in a pattern. This fills such a void in my life. Who can be unhappy working with fiber? Is it possible? And lastly I am thankful for the community of friends I have encountered as a result of crochet, thus adding to my friendship and support network. Everyone I have met online has been a blessing–including you, Noreen!

  22. Kesam Katz says:

I am grateful for my life–everyday is a new adventure. Kesam

  23. Stefania says:

I am grateful..because I won te doll! eheheheeh, Stef

  24. I am grateful that I have enough food, shelter and clothing and the opportunity to help those those in need.

  25. Suzanne in Sawtell says:

i am so grateful for 4 very healthy adult offspring and their so healthy and clever children. I am thankful for the air I breathe, having fresh water to drink and for the many freedoms we enjoy in this great country, Australia.

  26. Patti D. says:

I am grateful for all that life has brought me and my children and will provide for us in the future. Life has turned around for us in a big way and I am really making my children proud and also taught them that you can achieve goals if you set your mind to them and work hard and never giving up.

  27. I am thankful for my grand children, the precious time spending with them is like nothing you can ever buy. Even with all the spinning yarn and loving it, I’d give it up for my grand children!

  28. What fills me with gratitude is how thankful I am for my husband. He is a wonderful man. I am also thankful for the troops in our country who willingly put their lives on the line to continue to keep us safe. Glenn and I have adopted two soldiers serving overseas during this holiday season as a way to say “thank you” to them.

    hugs,
    Andrea

  29. Barbara says:

I am grateful for so many things, my family and especially my little granddaughter, Jaclyn, who is almost 2. When I pick her up from her “school” she comes running with a big hug for me. I’m thankful that my husband and I are in a position to travel with our 5th Wheel to be able to spend time with our daughter and her family and travel to so many different places in the USA and Canada. I’m also thankful for all the brave men and women who are putting their lives on the line so that we have a free society to thrive in. Thanks Noreen for your creative joyful classes and blogs. :>)

  30. Barbara D. Ramsey says:

I would like to win the Thank You Doll for my friend Nacey who is so very ill after back surgery and a stroke following that surgery. She faces a very long and difficult recovery but is a very brave and strong person with an equally strong faith. This small doll beside her during this time of learning to talk and walk again so she can return to her family will make her smile and keep in mind how many people love her and pray for her. Ironically, she suffered that stroke the eve of Thanksgiving. I am so thankful she is here.

  31. cheryl says:

I am thankful! Thankful for my family who understands me & treats me great – inspite of my foibles. Thankful for my friends -those still with us and those that have passed (who are still with me) Thankful that I can express myself freely, voicing my opinions and through my art. I am thankful for the changing seasons, when winter hits it reminds me that mother nature can be tough and I can be just as tough. I am grateful for this forum to get me to think about being grateful.

  32. Grace Gardiner says:

Hi Noreen, As you, I am very grateful for people in my life. My sometimes grumpy other half! I think I will keep him! LOL My two beautiful daughters, the two great guys they have chosen to share their life w/ and two precious beautiful granddaughters. As well as great group of people in our crochet club here in CT, to share the art of crochet with. It was a great pleasure to meet you in NH this year, I hope, (money willing), I will be able to attend in 2008. Stay well, and keep those beautiful ladies coming. I treasure your book, thank you for autographing it for me!
    Grace G.

  33. Sandy says:

I am thankful to be alive in the 21st century.

Sunday is one of the landmark birthdays for me and I need to be on oxygen 24/7. One hundred years ago I would not have been able to celebrate my birthday with my 1st grandson. I would not have been so entertained with the internet, art, movies, books, friends and even a nice little car to travel safely. I would not have had email, shared ideas and fun with interesting people around the world.

Life still might not be all comfort, but I am very thankful for the opportunities AND the HOPE the 21 century offers all of us!

  34. zeebie says:

I am thankful and filled with gratitude for my loving family and our good health, for goals reached this year and for new friends and new experiences, for KT – the black stallion, for yarn and fabric and for this beautiful world in which we live.

  35. Judy says:

I have a lot to be thankful for….a wonderful family, and my daughter is going to have a baby. We live in a wonderful country and in a beautiful part of that country. I am grateful that I can “operate outside of the lines” to do my spinning and knitting.

  36. sue says:

I am grateful for good health for all my family and me. As long as you have that anything is possible.

  37. Almalee Anderson says:

I am thankful for crafters like you that are full of love for others. Your gratitude doll is beautiful. Until I came across your blog, I did not realize that you could make dolls and animals with spool knitting. The internet is a wonderful place full of ideas and talented crafters. I am grateful for my family, my friends and the kindness of strangers. And most of all I am grateful for the journey.
Noreen, thank you for reminding me.
    Gratefully yours,
    Alee from South Carolina

  38. Cathi says:

I am grateful for all that I have and for remembering how much it really is. My biggest one is that I’m grateful for my two daughters and all the joy, love and laughter they bring to my life

  39. Vicki Barber says:

I am grateful for the 15 years I had with my dear husband. I miss him greatly and always will, but the love he brought to my life is priceless and I wouldn’t have missed his presence in my life for anything. I’m grateful to feel his love around me always. I’m also grateful for my son and the joy he brings to my life.
