Hankering for Yarn

Crocheted lace shrug for flat dolls

Flora needed a lacey shrug to go with her new tuttu, so I got out my crochet hook and crochet cotton and designed and made her a lace shrug. It is crocheted from the neck opening down. Here’s how I did it:

With #10 crochet cotton and a 1.75 mm hook, ch 26.

Row 1: Skip 1 ch, work 1 hdc in each rem ch. (25 hdc)

Row 2: Turn. Ch 3. 1 dc in 1st hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, 1dc, ch 2 ,skip 2 hdc, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, 1 dc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, 2 dc in last hdc.

Row 3: Turn. Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd dc, ch 2, dc in next dc, ch 2, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc, *(ch 2, 1 dc,) 3 times, ch 2, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc,* repeat from * to * 3times, ch 2, 2 dc in last dc.

Row 4: Turn. Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd dc, [ch 2, dc in next dc] twice, ch 2, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc, *(ch 2, 1 dc,) 5 times, ch 2, {dc, ch2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc,* repeat from * to * 3 times, ch 2, 2 dc in last dc.

Row 5: Turn. Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd dc, [ch 2, dc in next dc] 3 times, ch 2, {dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc, *(ch 2, 1 dc,) 7 times, ch 2, {dc, ch2, dc, ch 2, dc} in next dc,* repeat from * to * 3 times, ch 2, 2 dc in last dc.

Row 6: This row will shape the sleeves:Turn. Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd dc, [ch 2, dc in next dc] 5 times, ch 2, skip 10 ch 2/dc spaces , dc in center dc of cluster, (ch 2, 1 dc,) 10 times, ch 2, skip 10 ch 2/dc spaces , dc in center dc of cluster, (ch 2, 1 dc,) 5 times, 1 more dc in last dc.

Row 7: Turn, Ch 3, 1 dc in 2nd dc, (ch 2, 1 dc,) 22 times, 1 more dc in last dc.

Row 8: Turn, ch 1, 2 sc in each ch 2 space. Cut yarn, finish, weave in ends.
