Crocheting with my daughter in law

I was talking to a friend recently, about how neat it is to have your kids marry people you adore.
There’s this wonderful continuity of love. I loved my mother in law to bits, and she was one of the most important people in my life. She died last spring, so this is our first Christmas without her. Hard.
Anyhow, now I get to be the kind of mother in law she was- well, I HOPE I’ll be the kind of mother in law she was.
I love my son in law and daughter in law to pieces and it’s just a delight to be able to do so without reservation. When you know your kids are madly in love with their partners, it gives you permission to love them madly, too!
This morning, well, it will be yesterday morning by the time I get this posted, I had the most wonderful time, hanging out with my son and his wife.
He took this picture of Alli and me, crocheting together while Jim and his trio made glorious music at the bistro they gig at regularly.
She’s gotten hooked seriously on crochet (YAY!) and has really clicked with it. She’s crocheting up a storm!
Here we are, just enjoying a little mother-daughter crochet tute.
I love this mother in law stuff!

How wonderful you have a DIL to crochet with–I am drooling with envy. While my MIL was a knitter, our mutual interest had no part is a very non relationship. She wanted grandchildren, but I totally failed her when instead of a boy and girl I gave birth to two boys. So I envy you this relationship–relish it, enjoy it, and I am so delighted God has graced you in this way. Happy holidays, thanks for sharing.
Kesam, my dear….
I am so sorry that your relationship with your MIL was an unsatisfying one. Like you, I have had other relationships that were fraught with sorrows and disappointments. This makes it even sweeter for me to have had the lovely and loving attachment to my mother in law, and now, my daughter in law and son in law. I agree with you…. I am profoundly blessed, and deeply, wholeheartedly grateful!
I am truly beside myself with delight that my daughter and son have brought these lovely young people into our lives.
I hope that you have friends who have become family, in order to fill the gaps left by relatives who didn’t relate!
hugs
