Hankering for Yarn

Darn Easy? Not quite

When my darlin’ little neice was learning to speak, one of her favorite expostulations was: ‘Oh CWAP!’.

I’ve been having a bit of an ‘o cwap’ day……. I am sideways I am so tired………

Last week, my editor told me she needed me to ship a whole heap of projects ASAP, so she could take them to the pre-publication committee.  Alrighty!
The book’s been idling for months and months. But, it’s suddenly moving forward. The new burst of energy, plus the long gestation period gave me  a whole new sense of what the book should be.  So, I’ve been  working in a new direction.

When my editor asked for a whole bunch of the new pieces, and to have them on her desk ~now~… my eyes spun in whirlie twirlies…….  I had already booked this weekend for Tottie Tomato’s Virtual Teaparty (and knew that it was going to take a whole lot of time and effort to pull that off)

AND…. we are busting our chops to get Jim’s Mum’s house moved forward to get it to the point of being able to sell it.

This means (as well as the usual cleaning clearing painting blah blah blah stuff) also dealing with freecycle to find new homes for a bunch of stuff… and that means dropping everything to race into the city to be there for people to pick stuff up, and to answer 993 emails about stuff………   cwap

So————– it was a corker of a weekend, and the one thing that kind of had to give was the sleep part. Sleep just wasn’t part of the picture for this weekend……… erg.

ANYHOW…. Tottie Tomato’s Virtual teaparty was great fun, but a little scramblie…. working madly on the paper doll and setting up photos and editing them and writing updates, while AT THE SAME TIME working on finishing up projects ………. whew……….

So, working into the wee small hours, and leaping out of bed waaaaaaaaaaaay too early meant that I was just packing the last of the projects into the box when the courier arrived today.

I had to race around, flapping tape on the box, because I was trying to get juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust one more piece into the box…………………..  (I gave up. Enough already)

And, I breathed a huge sigh of relief as she ambled away with the box and my blessings.

I thought: Okay…. now I can answer some emails and maybe even get a nap squeezed in……..

but, no….  cwap

The phone rang and it was the painter.

We have been feeling  like we were going to fall off the edge of the earth with trying to run with 2  full time jobs, a marriage and family and getting our little farm  ready to sell, AND getting Jim’s Mum’s house ready to sell. ai ai ai
So, to save our sanity and our health, we decided to get our friend, who’s a wonderful house painter, to finish up Mum’s house. Whew.

So…….. grab some stuff, race in to the city, to meet him and get more things done at the house and and and….

  • Note of explanation: Getting close to actually getting to the point of this entry now….  when we go into the  city, Jim drives and I do fiber stuff….

Anyhow…. one  of the things that I have been contemplating lately, is my holey socks.   I love knitting socks, but have been too busy to get any done.

AND so, my knitted socks are getting more and more worn out.  Luckily, my wonderful sister (technically ‘in-law’ but truly sister of the heart) found this strange and wonderful little old weird vintage gadget in her fave 2nd hand store: Darn Easy.

Terrific! I was smitten with it… click click click, little hooks go back and forth like a teeny tiny heddle…. ooooooh kewl!

I usually weave up little 2 inch squares on my weave-it looms and stitch them on my holies, but I decided to give the Darn Easy a try.

So, while Jim drove, I got the Darn Easy  all set up:

ALAS! In my mad scramble to throw stuff into my ‘couldn’t possibly sit still in the car, I HAVE to have something to plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay with’ bag, I didn’t put in a metal darning needle. Only  big honker  plastic ones. Duh….

Well, the Darn Easy mocked and scorned that! Hah! it proclaimed! I am older than ~plastic~ needles, get thee a PROPER needle!

oh cwap.

AND

I used TWO strands of yarn to  attempt to start the darning. darn-easy-2qs.jpg

Oh phoo.

Oh darn it.

Oh to heck with it.

I closed my eyes and snoozed off instead.

Darn it.

hugs all round,

Noreen

Gotta run. Time to take the garbage out. My life is so exciting. Garbage night is a BIG thrill! Don’t knock it!

Oops…  gotta clean the kitty litter…. yep, my life is sooooooo exciting.
